Unicameral House of
101 Members May be
Israel's Parliament

TEL AVIV (Palcor)—The Con-
stitution of Israel and the future
parliamentary structure of the
new republic are being molded
day by day within the Council
of State of the Provisional Gov-
ernment, in preparation fOr the
forthcoming general elections. In
view of the detailed preparations
yet to be made, it is believed
that the elections will not be held
until some time in December.
But it is generally felt that a
more speedy holding of elections
is no longer -"a must" for the
country's foreign policy.

Arabs Kill Four in
Attack on Convoy

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Four per-
sons—three men and a woman—
were killed when a Jewish con-
voy proceeding from Tel Aviv
to Jeresulam under United Na-
tions escort was ambushed by a
party of ten Arab Legion soldiers-
at the. Latrun pumping station, it
was officially announced. Acting
mediator Ralphe Bunche, who
was in Jerusalem when news of
the attack was received, immed-
iately hurried to the scene to in-
vestigate.
The Jewish convoy, which was
completely unarmed, consisted
of two passenger cars, six trucks
and an oil - tank truck preceded
by a white painted jeep in which
a United Nations observer tray-
•eled.
One of the victims was John
Locke Lewis, an engineer, who
recently arrived in this country
on an assignment for the Knapp
Engineering Company of Phila-
delphia. The woman who was
killed was identified as a Mrs.
Van Vriesland, a sister-in-law of
S. S. Hoofien.
A. L. Kanvaty, head of the
"Cedat" Liberation Association,
which is a Free Lebanon move-
ment, • broadcast an appeal to his
fellow countrymen to overthrow
the government of Lebanese
Premier Riah el, Solh. Speaking
on the Voice of Israel station,
Kanvaty charged that el Solh
"belongs to the Moslem minority
which oppresses the Christian
majority of Lebanon. Before Kan-
vaty began his address, the Is-
raeli announcer pointed out that
the "free people of -Israel are
pleased to offer these facilities,"
to Kanvaty, but cannot take re-
sponsibility for the speaker's
statements.
The Chief Rabbinate met in
Jerusalem today to condemn the
association and send condolences
to the families of Bernadotte and
Serot, and to the Swedish and
French governments. The Rab-
binate has ordered special pray-
ers for the dead men to be re-
cited in synagogues throughout
the world.

Poll Shows Canadians
Favor Israel Recognition

MONTREAL--AccOrding to the
Gallup Poll of Canada 36 per
cent of all Canadians favor the
Dominion's immediate recogni-
tion of Israel, whereas 22 per
cent are of the opinion that rec-
ognition should be given later.
Twenty-three per cent are against
recognition and 19 per cent are
undecided, the survey established.
The Gallup Poll showed that-
the name of the new state is not
yet fully known to the bulk of
Carfadians. When the Canadian
Institute of Public Opinion polled
a cross-section of the voting
population, asking people for the
name of "the new Jewish state
in Palestine" only little more
than a third were able to answer
correctly.
