VIENNA (JTA) — Dr. David
Shapira, president of the Vienna
Jewish Community, charged that
none of the promises made by
leading Austrian GovernMent of-
ficials some six months ago have
been fulfilled. Consequently, Dr.
Shapira told the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency, the 10,000 Jews
in Vienna are extremely dissat-
isfied with the delay in property
restitution and inadequate hous-
ing facilities.

NEW YORK, (JTA) — Rep.
Emanuel Celler of New York
sailed for Israel as head of a
delegation which will discuss the
future status of the Red Mogen
David with the Israeli Govern-
ment.
The primary purpose of the
group's visit is to conclude nego-
tiations for inclusion of the Red
Mogen David as a member of the
League of Red Cross Societies.
Besides Rep. Celler, who is chair-
rif n of the national board of
sponsors of the American Red
Mogen David, the delegation will
include Dr. Harris J. Levine,
chairman of. the Mogen David
blood bank for „Israel, Mrs. Archi-
bald Silverman, national sponsor
of the organization, and Zalman
J. Friedman, its executive direc-
tor.

the Zionist Archives and Library
of the Kereri Hayesod (Palestine
Foundation Fund, Inc.), 41 E.
42nd St., New York, sailed on
the S. S. New Amsterdam to
Israel, where she will collect He-
brew books and background ma-
terial for the Zionist Archives
and Library. She will also obtain
pertinent data on Israel for the
"Palestine Year Book."

Argentine Society Offers
Prizes for 3 Yiddish Plays

LIMA, (JTA) — For the first
time in its history the Peruvian
Government has awarded its
"Order of the Sun" medal to a
Jew. The civilian decoration,
awarded for outstanding achieve-
ments and distinguished services
to Peru in the diplomatic, scien-
tific, professional and cultural
fields, was. presented to Dr. Theo.
Buchwals, director of the Lima
Symphony Orchestra.
The Post Office Department
has instructed all local branches
to accept regular and airmail
letters for delivery anywhere in
Israel, it- was officially announced
here. However, parcels are not
being accepted for the time
being.

by the Argentine Jewish Art So-
ciety. The. contest is open to all
Yiddish writers throughout the
world. First prize — $1,000 — is
for an original three-act play,
while two lesser awards will be
made for- one-act manuscripts.
All entries must be submitted to
the Society by the end of Febru-
ary, 1949.
