Giuseppe Habib, vice-president of the Jewish community of Tripoli, in a plea. to the World Jewish Congress for urgent re- lief, reported: "The immediate victims of the June pogroms number about 298 families or 1,500 persons who are literally deprived of everything, including shelter and clothes. Some of them lost everything and are in refugee camps, while others are being aided by the community which is supplying them with clothing and paying them a weekly minimum subsidy. They have found shelter in two synagogues where they are ex- posed to the threat of epidemics because of the unsanitary condi- tions there. The problem is tragic and if we do not receive help our community will face a general collapse."
