Need 400 Cars for
Pick-Ups for SOS
Detroit Jewry is preparing for
the Oct. 31 drive for the JDC's
Supplies for Overseas Survivors
(SOS). The Men's SOS Commit-
tee headed by Morris Sussman
met to discuss a program for the
collection of clothing, toys, medi-
cal supplies and other comforts
for Jews preparing to go to Israel
and other survivors in Europe,
China and North Africa.
Goldie Levinstein, chairman of
the non-intensive area, informed
the committee that 400 cars and
drivers would be needed for
pick-ups during the one-day
drive. The group on hand pledged
a total of 600 cars to participate
on Oct. 31.
Participating at the men's com-
mittee meeting were: Meyer
Lebowitz, Bnai Brith; Morris
Klaus, Shaarey Zedek; Benjamin
Bagdade, Temple Israel; Paul
Carpenter, Beth Aaron; Mac Sil-
vernian, Beth Aaron; Hy Kinit-
zer, Postal Employees; Kurt West,
Temple Beth El; Maurice Reist-
man, Theodore Herzel Bnai Brith
of Wyandotte; Louis Barden,
Tikva Lodge.
This year's quota for the one-
day drive has been set at 500,000
pounds of food and clothing. Last
year Detroit raised 315,000
