Little DVOIRA BAKALURZ (right) may have her doubts
about emigrating to a new land, but obviously they are not
shared in the slightest by her mother, father and sister, as the-
family, formerly interned in a displaced persons camp near Mu-
nich, leaves Paris for a new home in South America.
The Bakalurz family are among 12,300 Jewish refugees who
in the first six months of this year emigrated to Israel, the United
States, Latin America, Canada and other lands, with the help of
the Joint Distribution Committee.

MICHIGAN'S THIRTEENTH

DISTRICT
REPUBLICAN

•

This is an urgent message to you on the eve of Primary Elec-
tion Day.

When you go to the pas to discharge your duties as citizens,
you must keep in mind the responsibilities that go with selecting
your re-presentative in Congress.
This is the time to detect shallow promises and padded rec-
ords.

Your obligation is to judge the candidate by his record
for service.

-

CONGRESSMAN

I stand on my record.
In the middle '30s, I was among the first to recognize the

dangers of excessive government spending and sponsored legis-

lation in Congress against burdening the American people with
obligations that led to over-taxation.

I was the first member of Congress to sense the oncoming

threats of Nazism and introduced measures to protect the vic-
tims of persecution. My record shows that I never would have en-
dorsed or voted for a DP bill containing anti-Catholic and anti-
Jewish provisions.

cause of Zionism and the justice of providing a homeland for dis-
possessed Jews, I had enrolled as a proponent of the ideal of
Jewish Statehood. In the early '20s and for 20 years I appeared
on Zionist platforms in Detroit.

Today, seeking your support for a return to Congress, I am
in favor of the basic ideals of Americanism and -humanity. I favor
the disbanding of autocratic rule. I favor economic but efficient
government. I endorse the most drastic proposals for the liberal-
ization of legislation for the admission of displaced persons to the
U. S. and I shall join in sponsoring measures for the elimination of
anti-Catholic and anti-Jewish provisions in the law passed by the
last session of Congress.
I am for the Republican plank which gives courage to the
Jewish people in the State of Israel and I favor de jure recognition
of Israel, extension of loans to Israel, admission of Israel as a mem-
ber of the UN and the lifting of the embargo to enable Jews in
Israel to defend themselves.
These are sacred pledges. Scrutiny of my record of : 18 years'
service in Congress is evidence of what I am equipped to do to
fight for the American way of fair play,

By sending me back to Congress my District will have the
assurance of a Representative who will urgently be on guard
against abuses of elementary rights.

Long before most of the American people knew of the great
