WS Your Baby Now
Paul Shulman, 26-year-old chief of the Israeli navy, has a great
sense of humor • . . Recently he was aboard a • corvette when the
British ship Ocean Vigor arrived with a number of Jewish detainees
from Kenya . . . On spotting the British naval convoy he issued a
warning that all ships with the exception of the Ocean Vigor would
be, barred from Israel's territorial waters . . . The mighty British
fleet obeyed his order and stopped outside the three-mile limit .. .
After the passengers were removed from the ship Shulman signalled
to the British commander of the convoy that he could have his baby
back . . . The Briton was confused by the message . . . Shulman
again signalled "you can have your baby now" . . . The bewildered
captain signalled back, "I have no baby and want no baby, you can
keep it" . . . While the baby talk was going on the Ocean Vigor
plodded slowly out of the three-mile limit ... As the ship neared the
convoy Shulman signalled to the captain standing on the tower of
his destroyer, "It's your baby now, take it away" . . . As the crew
of the corvette broke out into laughter and applause, Shulman
whispered solemnly "what pains wouldn't I go through to have such
a baby."

A Golden Tale

When Rabbi Wolf Gold, chairman of the World Mizrachi execu-
tive, toured Europe with Chief Rabbi Herzog to redeem Jewish
children from Christians who had sheltered them during the war, he
came back to tell a startling tale .. . In a small town in Holland
they came across two elderly Christian Dutchmen who gave haven
to' a Jewish child during the Nazi occupation ... Rabbi Gold told
them he wanted to take the child to Palestine and offered to com-
pensate the couple for their kindness . . . The elderly people had
become terribly attached to the child and were frantic over the
prospect of parting with their ward . .. When they heard the child
was to be taken away from them they became upset and cried "If
you take our child to Palestine you must take us too or else we will
commit suicide" . . . The two elderly Dutchmen and the Jewish child
are now somewhere in the Holy Land, citizens of the new state of
Israel.

McLeod Reaffirms
Support for Israel

"Israel has a right to Galilee,
Jerusalem and the Negev, and I
shall fight for this principle
whenever given a chance," Clar-
ence J. McLeod, former Congress-
man, who seeks the nomination
for election again to the House
in the 13th District, stated this
week.
"In holding to these views, I
am simply following a tradition
I established while a member of

Congress when I fought for free
immigration, for relief of the
persecuted and in behalf of a
Jewish Palestine," he stated.
McLeod said he favors de jure
recognition of Israel by the U. S.,
Israel's admission to the UN and
a loan of at least $100,000,000 by
the U.S. to the Jewish State.
