U. S. Jews in Olympics

By HASKELL COHEN

(Copyright, 1948, Jewish Telegraphic
Agency, Inc.)

The U.S. Olympic team is in
England preparing for this
year's games. Marty Glickman,
sprinter in the 1936 affair, was
on hand to see the boys • off last
week in New York City. As a
sportscaster, Marty served as
master of ceremonies in a pre-
sailing send-off. • It looks as
though the Jewish honors will
fall to Iry Mondschein, decath-
lon stalwart from N.Y.U., and
Steve Seymour, javelin tosser
from the west coast. Seymour
just made the boat as third man
on the javelin squad before
creating new records in pre-
Olympic workouts. A sore back
has handicapped the stick 'tosser,
and it is hoped he will come
around to lead the pack. Vic
Frank, - Yale's discus thrower, is
on the squad, too, and may get
in the scoring column with a
point or two for Uncle Sam.

Georgia Klan Re-emerging
"In Alarming Proportions"

ATLANTA, Ga. (jPS) - The
greatest rally in many years was
held here last week, with 3,000
robed and hooded Klan members
and 7,000 spectators watching the
inauguration of '700 new mem-
bers. Stetson Kennedy, author
of "Southern Exposure," an ex-
pose of the KKK based on mate-
rial collected by Kennedy as a
surreptitious Klansman, describ-
ed the rally as evidence of 'a"
postwar resurgence of the KKK
(which has) reached alarming
proportions." There were chil-
dren and women in the audi-
ence. Herman Talmadge was
plugged by speakers and on
windshied stickers.
