OLE HELGE BAKKE
LAKE SUCCESS, N. Y. —
United Nations officials reported
that Arabs were responsible for
the shooting and killing of Ole
Helge Bakke, a Norwegian sub-
ject and a member of the UN
guard detachment. UN Secretary
General Trygve Lie reported that
Bakke was murdered on Mount
Scopus.
"An examination of . bullet holes
in the jeep (that Bakke was driv-
ing to Hadassah Hospital)," the
zeport stated, "revealed that the
fire must have come from the
left front, namely, Arab posi-
tions. The jeep received approxi-
mately nine bullet holes in the
rear seat and canopy."
A cable from the mediator's
headquarters in Rhodes quoted
Swedish Jerusalem Observer Col.
Nils Brunssen as stating that the
Mt. Scopus area is now demili-
tarized and under United Nations
supervision. The Swedish officer
who is now at Rhodes also re-
vealed that a new plan for brief-
*ing all United Nations observers
in Rhodes before they assume
their posts in Palestine is in op-
