Luigi Criscuolo, New York
Italian leader, in a statement re-
plying to an address delivered
recently by Luigi Antonini, a
leader in the International. La-
dies Garment Workers Union,
condemned Count Sforza as be-
ing pro-British. Criscuolo said:
"Although Mr. Antonini prides
himself on his. Jewish friends,
like David Dubinsky, who is do-
ing his duty as a Jew to re-estab-
lish Palestine; one of Antonini's
friends, Count Carlo Sforza, Ital-
ian Foreign Minister, refuses to
allow Italy to recognize the free
state of Israel "in the interests of
peace." Many American Jews are
now complaining that • although
they helped Sforza financially
and morally when he was in the
United States, and when Britain
vetoed his aspirations to be Ital-
ian Foreign Minister, he is now
siding with Britain on the Pales-
tine question. But those of us
who know how Sforza betrayed
his • King, who gave him the
highest honors, are not surprised
that he -should now betray his
Jewish friends and side with Bri-
tain, perhaps in his own interest
rather than in that of Italy."

Jewish Student Gets Award
Held 'Up at CCNY 5 Years
NEW YORK. (JPS)—A Jew-
ish honor student of City College
has just received a medal for
proficiency in French although
he graduated five years ago and
is now studying in the Sorbonne,
in Paris. The student, Morton
Gurewitch, missed getting the
award in 1942 allegedly because
of anti-Semitism on the part of
Prof. William E. Knickerbocker,
chairman of the Romance Lan-
guages Department. At the time
the award was given to a non-
Jewish student although Gure-
witch's record was superior.
