IZFA Expects 400 Delegates .
Council Institute to Survey Role
Of Youth in Jewish Community Youth G roups At Convention Here June 20.23

For - the first time in Detroit,

area of Jewish thought and action
will meet together at a week-end
camp institute to consider the
"Role of Jewish Youth in the Jew-
ish Community Today" at the De-
troit Jewish Young Adult Coun-
cil's first annual conference, June
18 to 20, at. Fresh Air Cainp.
Nationally known 'speakers are
expected to attend the conference,
to lead discussion and workshop
sessions on the institute theme, ac-:
cording to Yehudah •Rosennian,
Council executive secretary. De-
tailed arrangements for the week-
end are being made by a commit-
tee headed by Larry Fleischman.

of the conference program: _
Attendance at the camp insti-
N tute is open to members of all con-
stituent organizations of the
Young Adult Council. Since the

camp's 'capacity is limited, it is
urged that reservations, prepaid,
be Made immediately upon re-
ceipt of the invitations which are
being mailed to the menibers.
In addition to the educational
aspect of the conference, a full
program of social and recreational
activities, suited to the camping
atmosphere, is being planned,
Fleischman said.
The fee for the institute, which
begins with Friday evening sup-
per -and continues through Sun-
day evening, is $10..50. Transpor-
tation, to Fresh Air Camp, -which
is ideated near Brighton, Mich.,
40 miles from Detroit, is being ar-
ranged by the committee. Cars,
will leave at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m.

The annual election - of officers
of Young Israel • of Detroit will be
held at 9 •p. m. Wednesday,
June- 9 at Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah, Dexter at Cortland. Com-
plete•activity and financial re-
Ports for the past year will be
presented.
The program will feature two
sound movies to be shown for
the first • time in Detroit, "'The
Voyage of the Unafraid," a new
film prOduced by the Hagannh,
taken- from actul scenes of the
voyage of illegal immigrants to
IsraeP, and "Faith and Learning,"
-a film produced by Yeshivah
University, depicting the scholas-
tic and extra-currcular life of a
yeshivah student.
Registration is now open for
the Young Israel-s pohsored
Camp Ades in Union Pier, Mich.
A strictly kosher camp with a
traditional Jewish atmosphere,
the Camp Ades program features
a full schedule of. land and
water sports, together with an
educational program under the
supervision of qualified. coun-
selors.
Registration - is open for -boys
- and girls, ages g to 15, who will
be accompanied by Detroit coun-
selors. There are four two-week
camping periods, beginning June

Detroit high' school .students,
delegates to the third . annual
United Nations Student Assem-
bly, recommended that the UN
should enforce partition of Pales-
tine by economic and military
sanctions against the Arab states,
with simultaneous economic and
military assistance to the new
Jewish state of Israel.
The Assembly, at which 190
high school students spent the
day discussing' -UN problems, was
held May 26 at the Rackham
Memorial Bldg. Among the dele
gates' other recommendations was
one urging admission of displaced
persons by all countries "in pro-
portion to their absorptive
capacity."

tral High School at the meet-
ings.

Over four hundred delegates
from 130 universities throughout
the United States and Canada will
meet in Detroit, June 20 to 30,
when the Intercollegiate Zionist
Federation of America holds its
third annual national convention.
Headquarters will be at the
Jewish CommiinitY Center. The
Wayne University IZFA chapter
is host for the convention, and
Joe Yanich is convention chair-
man.
Prominent Zionist leaders who
have been invited to ,address the
convention are Dr. Emanuel Neu-
mann, president of the ZOA; Dr.
Samuel Kurland, educational di-
rector of the Histadrut; Carl Al-
pert, director of the _department
of education of the ZOA; Aryeh
u Shindelman, shaliach to JNF, and
Yehuda Messenger, shaliach to
Hechalutz. Rabbi Morris Adler
will install the new officers.
Private housing is still needed
for convention delegates, and ac-
commodations can be arranged by

CHAPTER ONE, ZOD, will
visit the Canadian home of Willie
Shanfield this Sunday. A few
reservations are Still open and
may be made by calling Micki
Lancet, WE. 4-4223. Those attend-
ing will meet at 12 noon at the
, auto exit on the Windsor side of
the tunnel. The Chapter One sum-
mer program will continue with
an all-day outing at Rouge Park
Sunday, June 13. open to the pub-
lic. Thse attending will meet at
1 p.m. at Bnai Moshe.
Jerome Stasson, violinist, and
Betty Kowalsky, pianist, will pre-
sent musical selections at Chapter
One's annual election meeting at
the Bnai Moshe auditorium,
Tuesday, June 8, at 8:30 p.m. Pros-
pective members may pay their
annual dues at the door. The meet-
ing will be followed by a social.

To Conclude June 9
