BefrOthal "Announced
At Family Dinner Party

MRS. HERMAN AUGUST
of the youthful viewpoint, since
she has been associated with
young adult organizations since
her own school days in Chicago.
Even now, while she devotes a
great deal of time to the Worn-
en's Division of the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign, she is primarily
interested in the campaign causes
which benefit Jewish children
and young people in this country
and throughout the world.
In addition to her membership
on the board of the year-m.1.1nd
Women's Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, Mrs. August
has handled assignments for spe-
cial gifts' in this year's drive—
assigning many to herself for the
'leg" job of solicitation._
Whether it is offering her
home for community projects or
carrying out her duties as chair-
man of the district chapter of
Youth Aliyah or serving on the
Girl Scout Council of Detroit,
Mrs. August maintains a balanced
and generous perspective on civic
affairs. She is also active in Ha-
dassah and is on the board of
the Sisterhood of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Mrs. August brings this order-
liness and balance into her per-
sonal activities, running a house-
hold that is noted for its excel-
lent organization, and still, with
all these responsibilities, man-
aging to turn out a. remarkable
number of beautifully .knitted or
needle-worked pieces.
. Mrs. August launched her com-
munity work as president of the
Young Women's - Auxiliary of the
Old Folks Rome in Chicago, where
she attended Medill High 'School
and the Lewis Institute. A resi-
dent of Detroit for 22 years, she
has raised, her farnilY here. Her
