Workers Pledge Renewed
Efforts in Butzers Memory

Maurice Aronsson, general chairman of the 1948 Allied
Jewish Campaign, honored the workers in the pre-campaign di-
vision at a dinner May 24. Presenting the volunteers with plaques
testifying to their ardent efforts in behalf of the $6,200,000 drive,
Aronsson emphasized that "these plaques are not graduaton
diplomas, they are only mid-semesters, since we still have close
to 100 slips to cover in pre-campaign."
The campaigners paused in silent tribute to the memory of
Fred M. Butzel, honorary chairmen of the drive, and pledged
themselves to rededicate their efforts for 'a successful campaign
as a memorial to his leadership. .
At left LEONARD N. SIMONS, pre-campaign vice chair-
man, and ISIQORE SOBELOFF, executive director of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, watch as Aionsson displays the workers°
gift to him, a large plaque expressing the gratitude of the Jew-
ish community for his "gifted leadership."

Some of the workers received par-
ticular adulation :from the chairman,
among, them "a gem of a, worker,"
LOUIS BERRY, who is shown at right
receiving his plaque from Aronsson.

In Tribute to Fred M. Butzel

-
. It is difficult' to pay tribute to Fred Butzel, not
because there is little to say, but because there is so
much to tell.

There was something in him that transcended
the • talents and abilities of most men and the usual
words ‘lackthe strength to express the devotion and
the respect,. really the reverence, that we felt for him.
Over the years in scores of directions and in behalf of
unnumbered individuals he was a guide, a benefactor
and a friend.
I was deeply honored to serve as chirman under
his honOrary chairmanship of the Allied Jewish Cam-
. e must carry on the
paign; nowt that he is gone and vr
job alone, I feel more, than ever dedicated to finish
the job properly so' that the final community effort in
which Fred M. Butzel engaged shall have enjoyed the
success which his memory deserves.
