In the Women's
Division Spotlight
Mrs. Frank Carries
on Family Tradition
Of Communal Work
"Red Head Gingerbread" is
what her pupils used to call her
when she taught school, she says,
but Mrs. Seymour J. Frank belies
the legend that red-heads are
quick tempered, since her pa-
tience, good humor and unruffled-
ness have never deserted her in
the trying job of chairman of gen-
eral solicitation for the Women's
Division of the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
Taking things easy, in her case,
did not mean lack of feeling about
MRS. SEYMOUR J. FRANK
the job, as is proved by the re-
markable record of 138 per cent
of Quota achieved by general solic-
itation under her direction.
Although she is quiet to the
point of being retiring, Mrs.
Frank is one of the forefriost worn-
en leaders in Jewish communal
affairs. One of five daughters of
the Isaac Shetzers, a name long
familiar in the Jewish community,
she has been actively associated
with philanthropic work as long
as she—and most of the rest of
the younger generation—can re-
member.
Along with developing her ex-
perience and leadership, she has
retained the willingness to per-
form the unexciting, clerical tasks
that are the foundation for the
more publicity-valued phases of
campaigning.
In addition to being one of the
pillars of the Women's Division,
year around and at campaign
time, Mrs. Frank participates in
the work of the Council of Jew-
ish Women, Hadassah, Sisterhood
of Shaarey Zedek and the Com-
munity Chest. She has the inde-
scribable knack of making every-
one feel that she is personally in-
terested in the problems and con-
cerns of others, and that quality
is the basis of her success in com-
munal work, as well as her uni-
versal popularity.
Mrs. Frank is a native Detroit-
er and attended old Central High
School and Normal School here
in the city. Her daughter, Shirley
Jane, was graduated from the
University of Michigan last year
and her son, William, is now a
U. of M. student at Ann ArbOr.
