A call to rally in support of
the Allied Jewish Campaign was
issued this week to members of
all Zionist organizations of Detroit
by the Zionist Council.
Summoning Detroit, Jews "to
close ranks with ,,Yews throughout
the world" on the eve of the rise
of the Jewish State, the 'appeal
asks "the utmost of our means
while the citizens of the Jewish
State are offering it the supreme
gift of their lives."
Pointing out that the Allied
Jewish Campaign is the sole De-
troit agency for the collection of
funds for Jewish defense in Pales-
tine, the Zionist Council state-
ment cautions against other or-
ganizations professing to be col-
lecting funds for Jewish fighters,
and declares:
"Any organization other than.
the Allied Jewish Campaign
now appealing for funds in • the
name of Jewish Palestine is
unauthorized and irresponsible.
Before answering any appeal
other than the appeal of the
Allied Jewish Campaign, Jews
are asked to check with the-
office of the Allied Jewish
Campaign, the Jewish Welfare
Federation or the Zionist Coun-
cil. The new Jewish State in
Palestine is a very small state.
It is only fair that it shall have
only one government and not
two or three competing govern-
ments. It is only fair that there
shall be only one army, the
.
Haganah, and not two or three
competing armies."
Indicating further that there is
only one democratically elected
World Zionist Congresi, the state-
ment warns against giving en-
couragement to "self-started and
unrepresentative" competing
Zionist groups. It quotes from
the resolution of the World
Zionist Congress which repudi-
ated the activities of dissident
groups, and the statement men-
tions specifically - the Hebrew
Liberation Committee and the
Free Palestine League, as well as
a number of their subsidiary or-
ganizations and condemns them
as "pressure groups."
"Your only sure protection
against them is to check on each
group before attending a meeting
or making a donation," the state-
ment declares. "We call upon the
Jewish people of Detroit to give
these disruptive groups no rec-
ognition or encouragement, no
aid or comfort, lest this hour of
opportunity for the Jewish State
find the Jewish people torn and
divided and incapable of main-
taining a state. Every Jewish
man, woman and child is sum-
moned to self-discipline and
self-sacrifice and the will to unity
by which alone the Allied Jewish
Campaign can achieve its objec-
tive of • rescuing the Jews of
Europe and of building and de-
fending and developing the Jew-
ish State."
