MRS. MARTIN M. COWAN
weather those days with good
sportsmanship are her greatest
advantage in her communal work
as she has handled, for the sec-
ond consecutive Year, the hectic
responsibility of division chair-
man in general solicitation of
the Women's Division of the Al-
lied Jewish campaign.
To those who know Mrs. Cow-
en's generosity and warmth, it
is no surprise to learn that she
is about to take on a new re-
sponsibility, in addition to her
own family—the foster mother-
ing of a 14-year-old former DP,
Joshua Geller, a relative of the
Cowans. Her family now includes
a son, Warren; a daughter, Div-
era; and a niece, Marjorie.
BeSides working on ,the Allied
Jewish Campaign, sae is a con-
scientious worker for Hadassah,
the 12th Street Council' Center
and, the National Council of Jew-
ish Women. Furthermore, she is
willing to carry through the most
tedious jobs in connection with
the assignments she handles.
With all of her other interests,
MA. Cowan finds time for hob-
bies and is well known as a col-
lector of old glass, her home re-
flecting the good taste and charm
that are a part of her. They are
reflected, too, in her garden,
which shows the result of con-
stant and devoted care.
A native of Windsor, Mrs.
Cowan has said that she always
intended to make Detroit her
home. She came here with her
family after her husband's grad-
uation from the University of
Michigan.
