INF Box Clearance Starts Sunday;
Tree Planting to Honor Mothers;
Annual Flower Days May 20, 22, 23

• Semi-annual traditional clear-
ance of Blue and White Jewish
National Fund Boxes will com-
mence this Sunday, May 9, it was
announced by Mrs. Aaron Fried-
man, chairman of the JNF Coun-
cil box committee.
Members of Zionist groups af-
filiated with the JNF Council
Neill visit homes of box-holders
and the request has gone forth
that these volunteers be given
full cooperation - in order that the
box clearance job may be com-
pleted as quickly as possible.

The JNF Council also urges
that trees be planted in Pales-
tine on Mother's Day, in honor
of, or in tribute to the memory
of mothers.

Pisgah Women of Bnai Brith will
be featured on the program of the
final meeting of the season of the
League of Jewish Women's Or-
ganizations at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday,
June 1, at Shaarey Zedek.
Also on the program will be
the Northwest Sisterhood choir,
and the presentation of the an-
nual- Mildred Simons Rosenberg
Memorial Award to the boy and
girl who have made outstanding
contributions in the Jewish com-
munity.
• Sheruth League will be hostess
at the dessert luncheon •that will
precede the meeting.
Mrs. Harry L. Jackson will in-
stall the newly-elected officers.

for a trusteeship over Palestine
has been welcomed by the Jews
in Great Britain who are not na-
tionalists, and even some who
are, because they believe peace
must be established before Pal-
estine will be a suitable haven
for the homeless Jews of Europe,
said Rabbi Israel Mattuck of Lon-
don who arrived in New York to
make several addresses in the
East, under the auspices of the
American Council for Judaism.

cently returned from a year in
Palestine, where he began study-
ing for his doctorate, Which will
be conferred by the Hebrew Uni-

A joint meeting of all Jewish
Congress Women's Division chap-
ter education committees was
held May 3, at the home of Mrs.
Arthur Stone. An "Information
Plus" program was held with
the education committee chair-
men. contestants, and Mrs. Har-
ry Frank, divisional vice presi-
dent of education, moderator.
Wednesday, May 19, • at a di-
visional luncheon, Judge Justine-
Wise Poker, national president
of the Women's Division, will
speak on "Insecurity and Prej-
udice."
An annual award will be pre-
sented at this meeting to the
person who has done the most to
further human relations in De-
troit by writing and reporting.

Yeshivah Film Aids
In Membership Drive

depicting classroom activities, for

Plans Spring Festival

Detroit Section of the National
Council of Jewish Women was
signally honored this week by
being named the outstanding wo-
men's club of the year by the
Michigan State Federation of
Women's Clubs.
This is the first time, Federa-
tion officials believe, that a De-
troit group has won the annual
award. Presentation was made
by Mrs. Zaio Woodford Schroe-
der, president of the Detroit
Federation of Women's Clubs, at
a Council meeting Monday.
Helping the Council to win the
honor were its many activities
in the Jewish and non-Jewish
community. Especially cited were
the Council's 12th St. Center pro-
gram, the service to foreign-
born department, which traces
lost relatives in Europe; English
classes for new Americans; the
Council Career group and Coun-
cil Bride's Group, and the lat-
ter's monthly "ship-a-box . ' proj-

ROBERT SHULMAN, eight-
year-old pianist, has been chosen
for membership in the national
music camp at Interlochen, Mich.,
for the coming summer, accord-
ing to an announcement by Dr.
Joseph E. Maddy, president of
the camp. Entrance requirements
are on a merit basis. Robert has
been studying piano for the past
two years with Julius Chajes,
at the Jewish Community Center.
