New York Zionists Launch
All-Out Campaign for UJA

Zionists in the $250,000,000 United
Jewish Appeal campaign at an
Emergency Conference called by
the Zionist Organization of Am-
erica on Sunday, April 11, in
New York City.
Shertok, stressing that the
Yishuv's struggle for freedom
and statehood will be won if
every Jew does his duty, called
upon "New York Zionists to take
the lead in supporting the 1948
UJA campaign." "The Jews in
Palestine must be made to feel
that the, solidarity of world Jew-
ry is real and effective," he con-
tinued. "Efforts must be re-
doubled to help fighting Pales-
tine to tide over the present cri-
tical stage. Our defense must be
strengthened. Means must be
found to assist the Yishuv in
solving constructively the tre-
mendous tasks of state-building
with which it is confronted. Im-
migration must go on, even un-
der battle conditions."
At the same time, Morgenthau
declared that the "fate of the
Jews in Europe and Palestine will
be determined not by what the
statesmen decide at Flushing
Meadows, nor by the uncertain
policy in Washington, but rather
by what the Jews of Europe, Pal-
estine and America are able to
achieve in this crucial year."
Reminding American Jewry
that they have pledged them-
selves to raise through the Unit-
ed Jewish Appeal a minimum of

$250,000,000, the former Secretary
of the Treasury warned: "We
dare not fail in this task lest the
last light in Europe be extin-
guished for those who still lan-
guish in the DP camps, lest the
Jewish community in Palestine
lose its last dependable ally in
its struggle for existence."

MORE CHOICES than ever!

Peace

By LEONARD J. OSTROW

Why must hate uproot this world,
Cannot love and tolerance be unfurled?
We must learn respect for our fellow
man
To work and to play hand in hand.
This world of ours is full of strife . .
Let is change it to a happy life.
.
Instead; of race discrimination .
Let us try for a more peaceful nation
We must not forget that our country
is free
And practice the principles of liberty.
For future peace this must be done
If we conquer this
OUR GOAL IS WON.
Harmony among people is the thresh-
hold to good will
So let us enter within this thought
to instill.
The absence of wars and the tranquil-
ity of peace
Should be strong enough for hatred
to cease.
Vankind should learn that all people
.
are alike .
Whether their hair is red or black • . .
There skin dark or light.
Our fundamental aim should be to
breed respect . • .
For a peace loving nation to stand
erect.
For future peace this must be done
If we conquer this . . .
OUR GOAL IS WON.
