Division Spotlight

Mrs. Joe Holtzman
Is One of AJC1s Most
Ardent Volunteers

She has worked so ardently
and with such professional reg-
ularity in the office of the Wom-
en's Division of the 1948 Allied
Jewish Campaign that the mem-
bers of the staff regard Mrs.
Joseph Holtzman as one of them.
Although she holds no official
campaign position, Mrs. Holtz-
man has been an invaluable
worker behind the scenes in the
women's highly successful drive.
• Since the early part of March
she has maintained regular office
hours at campaign headquarters,
coming in to work five days a

MRS. JOSEPH HOLTZMAN

week and efficiently following
through on every assignment,
large or small, tedious or simple,
that was part of the day-to-day
job.
Mrs. Holtzman's family pays
her the greatest tribute a mother
could want: they follow her ex-
ample. Even David, her young
son, spent most of his spring va-
cation at campaign headquarters,
running errands, pulling slips and
filing.
Of course, Mrs. Holtzman would
say the shoe is on the other foot
—she is following the example
set by her husband, dynamic De-
troit's Dynamic Joe, who was one
of the delegates on the United
Jewish Appeal-sponsored survey
trip of Jewish conditions in Eu-
rope and Palestine early this
year.
Unusually perceptive and sym-
pathetic when dealing with peo-
ple, Mrs. Holtzman combines un-
derstanding of others with an un-
usual warmth of manner and a
keen sense of humor. She puts
these same qualities into the
smooth management of her home
and well-ordered social life.
First acquaintance with this at-
tractive woman leaves one un-
prepared to accept her as the
mother of a 21-year-old son. Toby
is a student at the University of
Michigan. In addition to their two
sons, the Holtzmans have a
daughter, Rosalie.

Student's Models
Aid Blind Children

Blind children at the Franklin
School will have an opportunity
to learn, through touch, the
methods of transportation used in
the world of sight, thanks to the
volunteer efforts of Robert Reiss
of 2745 Cortland.
Answering the call of the Up-
town Lions Club, issued through
a daily newspaper column, for
scale models of various trans-
portation media, Reiss offered his
replicas of trains, jeeps, planes,
and other means of transporta-
tion.
A 21-year-old Wayne University
student, Reiss has put his hobby
of making scale models to work
for many large transportation
firms. His efforts for the blind
students were honored at a Lions
Club luncheon.
