Menashe Skulnik to be Featured
May 9 in Main Masonic Auditorium
The Main Auditorium of the
Masonic Temple has been pro-
cured by Abraham Littman for
the staging on Sunday evening,
May 9 (Mother's Day), for one
performance only, of "Meine
Glicken" ("My Luck"), starring
the "King of Laughter," Menashe
Skulnik.
Famdus not only on the Yid-
dish but also on the English stage
and on the radio; Menashe Skul-
nik is one of the most popular
entertainers in the country. Dur-
ing his appearance in Detroit, he
will be assisted by a number of
outstanding actors, Lillie Lili-
ana, Leon Liebgold, Rosa Wal-
lerstein; Yetta Zwerling and An-
na Teitelbaum, together with the
Labor Leaders

Leaders of 116 AFL and CIO
unions in Detroit wired Con-
gress members protesting the
reversal of Palestine partition
pledge and urged congressional
action to recommit our govern-
ment for partition, for support
to - the Provisional Jewish Gov-
ernment being organized and for
lifting of the arms embargo.
The AFL wires were signed
by Frank X. Martel, president of
the Detroit-Wayne County Fed-
eration of Labor, vice-chairman
of the National Trade Union
Committee for Labor Palestine
and honorary chairman of the
Detroit Committee; Irving R.
Bronson, local AFL committee
chairman; and leaders of the
Building Trades, Printing Trades,
Street Railwaymen's Associa-
tion, Div. 26, Firemen and
Oilers, Hotel and Restaurant
Trades, Laundry, Laundry Driv-
ers, and others.
The CIO wires were signed by
Edward J. Cote, regional direc-
tor of UAW, CIO chairman of
the Trade Union Council for
Labor Palestine; August Scholle
and Barney Hopkins, president
and secretary-treasurer of the
Michigan State CIO Council;
Tracy Doll and Samuel Sage,
president and secretary-treas-
urer of the Wayne County
Council; and leaders of UAW,
Steel, Chemical, Clothing, Bak-
ery, Retail and Wholesale,
Maritime, Fur and Leather, Of-
fice, Packinghouse, etc.
The telegrams, sent to Sen-
ators Vandenberg and Ferguson,
and Congressmen Sadowski,
Coffin, Youngblood, Dingell,
Lardnski and Dondero, read:
'We urge you to oppose the
reversal of Palestine Partition
Plk-n pledged by our govern-
nvnt, which was instrumental
i4 committing the UN to its
original decision. Reversal rep-
resents a betrayal of the solemn
promises made in the name of
the American people and de-
stroys the effectiveness of the
United Nations as a force for
world peace.
"We urge Michigan Congress-
men to take immediate action in
Congress to recommit our gov-
ernment for partition decision
and to so instruct our American
delegation to the UN, to lift
arms embargo enabling Jewish
people in Palestine to defend
themselves, and to give full
support to the provisional Jewish
Government being set up in ac-
cordance with the UN decision."

Support Magnes Statement
NEW YORK. (JTA)—Prof. Al-
bert Einstein and Dr. Leo Baeck,
former Chief Rabbi of Berlin,
appealed to American and Pales-
tinian Jewry not to "permit them-
selves to be driven into a mood
of despair and false heroism
which eventually results in suici-
dal measures" in a letter to the
New York Times expressing sup-
port of a recent statement by Dr.
Judah Magnes and other mem-
bers of the Ichud Group in Pal-
estine. The Magnus statement
urged acceptance of a temporary
trusteeship for Palestine.

The Mastersingers' appeal is in
their wide range of musical selec-
tions. The musical tastes of both
young and old alike have been
considered as the basis of their
programs which will include a
group of numbers from Gersh-
win's "Porgy and Bess." A special
portion of the program will be
devoted to operatic arias and
duets including selections from
"Lakme," "Aida" and other fav-
orites of music lovers.
Some of the members of the or-
ganization to be ' featured are
Frances Bloom, O'Dell Small,
Ruth Soifer, Shirley Zaft, Joe
Finkelstein, Irving Rosengard,
Merry Weiner, Sid Rezhich, and
Norman Bazell.
Direction will be by Marvin
LoPatin, who will leave immedi-
ately after the concert for Kala-
mazoo State Hospital where he
will be in charge of musical ther-
apy. Miss Bernice Sheplow will
be the accompanist. Miss Shep-
low, the only girl disc jockey in
Detroit, is heard every Monday
evening on WJBK on the Red
Feather Music Box, a Community
Chest presentation.
Better relations between the
Jewish community and its neigh-
bors are fostered by the Jewish
Community Council, supported
by the Allied Jewish Campaign.
