American League Backs Requiting
Drive for George Washington Legion

,"The war in Palestine can I
come to an end when the British
leave," Dvora Tamarai, regional
director of the American League
for a Free Palestine, stated this
week. A former -fighter with the
Irgun forcep, Miss Tamarai was
wounded during an Arab riot.
She is in this country for medical
t r ointment, meanwhile assisting
the American League in its cur-
rent drive for recruits for the
George Washington Legion, a
projected force of Jewish volun-
teers to fight for independence
in Palestine. - •
- Miss Tamarai worked as a ha-
son person betWeen the JNF and
the Arabs for four years in the
Sharon Valley. "I feel .no con-
tempt for the Palestinian Arab,"
she insisted, emphasizing that it
is outside Arabs, mercenary fight-
- ers, who are causing much of the
current violence.
The Irgun forces will be dis-
banded upon the establishment of
a Hebrew Republic in Palestine,
Miss Tamarai said. She reiterated
that the Irgun is fighting only the
British and the mercenary Arabs,
and prophesied little difficulty
with- Palestinian Arabs after
Britain leaves the country.
The George Washington Legion,
in whose behalf Major Samuel
Weiser and fighter Barney Ross
will visit Detroit April 17 to 19,

would dispense with the need for
a UN army to enforce partition,
according to Miss Tamarai. "A
force of Jewish fighters, recruited
from all countries, would show
the world that the Jews are in-
dependent," she declared.
Ross and Major Weiser will be
guests at a reception Saturday
evening at Hotel Statler and at a
dinner on Sunday at the Lee
Plaza. At 8:30 p. m. 1\tonda.y they
will address a recruiting rally at
Central High Schoor auditorium,
-sponsored by the American
League.
They will be at the League's
office, 716, David Scott Bldg., all
day Monday to interview volun-
teers for the Legion.
