Israel Schedules
Passover -Worship,
Women's Service

Temple Israel will observe Sis-
terhood Sabbath eve at services
at 8:15 p. rn. this Friday in the
Lecture Hall of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts. Mrs. Louis A. Ro-
sett, president of the National
Federation of Temple Sisterhoods,
will be guest speaker.
Members of the Sisterhood will
conduct the service. Participants
will include Mesdames Saul Ben-
yas, William P. Greenberg, Royal
Oppenheim, Sidney Rosen, Sam-
uel Blacher, Samuel B. Danto,
Reuben Levine and Arthur J.
Haas.
"Passover: Festival of the
Springtime" will be the subject
of Rabbi Leon Fram's sermon at
the Passover service at 10:30 a.
m. Saturday, April 24. Cantor
Robert S. Tulman, organist Karl
W. liaas, and the Temple Israel
choir, directed by Dan Frohman,
will render a program of tradi-
tional Passover music. There will
be no services Friday, April 23.
The children of Temple Israel
Religious School are being train-
ed to sing the songs and perform
the ceremonials of the home
Seder.
On the seventh day of Passover,
Friday morning, April 30, Temple
Israel will observg Yizkor or
memorial services at 10:30 in the
Lecture Hall of the Institute.
Members of Temple Israel will
• bring their children to the Pass-
over family Sabbath eve service
Friday night,• April 30. A reli:
gious school choir will render an-
cient Passover melodies. "Time
. for Liberation" will be the sub-
ject of Rabbi Fram's sermon. The
congregation will be the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Pliskow
at the social hour following the
services in honor of the Bar Mitz-
vah of their son, Daniel.
There will be no sessions of
the Religious School Saturday
. morning, April 24, but regular
sessions will be held Sunday
morning, April 25.

Rabbi Sperka To Give
Pesach Talk on WWJ

Cong. Bnai David announces
the following schedule for its
Passover services: Friday, April
23, erev Pesach evening service
will begin at 7 p. m., with Cantor
Hyman Adler officiating, assisted
by a full choir under the direction
of Harry Siegel.
On the first days of Pesach,
Saturday, April 24, services will
begin at 8:45 a.m. Rabbi Sperka
will preach on "The Need for
Seder." On the second day of
Pesach, ,Sunday, April 25, the
services will begin at 8:45 a. m.
and the sermon of the day will
be "The Struggle for Freedom."
Radio Station WWJ has invited
Rabbi- Sperka to broadcast a
Passover sermon at 9:30 a. m.,
Sunday, April 18. In addition to
the Passover talk, music ,.of the
festival will be presented by
Cantor Adler.

Shaarey Zedek Men,
Women Combine for
Passover Program

Next Wednesday evening, April
21, the Men's Club of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek will unite
with the Sisterhood to present an
inspiring Passover program at
8:30 p.m. in the social hall of the
synagogue.
The program will begin with a
Model Seder, presented by the
children of the Hebrew and Sun-
day School classes of Shaarey
Zedek. Recordings of Cantor
Jacob Sonenklar will be used for
Kiddush and other appropriate
selections. This presentation, now
a tradition at Shaarey Zedek, was

Cantata will be presented by
the women of the Sisterhood.
The words were written by Rabbi
Mirris Adler and set to, music by
Lillian Robbins. The Cantata
was directed by Cantor Sonenk-
lar and Mrs. Adler.
The meeting will conclude with
refreshments.
Albert Green, president of the
Men's Club, announces that Maur-
ice M. Seligman will act as chair-
man of the evening, assisted by
Abe Sandelman, co-chairman.
Mrs. Abe Katzman is president
of the Sisterhood.

The experiences of Dr. Leo
Baeck under the Hitler regime
provided the theme for next
week's Eternal Light program—
"The Man Who Remembered
Lincoln," by Morton Wishen-
grad. Dr. Baeck is the first Euro-
pean clergyman ever to have
opened a session of the United
States Congress with prayer. He
was formerly Chief Rabbi of
Berlin.
The y broadcast will be heard
Sunday, April 18, at 8 a.m. on
station WWJ and at 12:30 p.m.
on station WTCB in Flint. This
will be the sixth in a series of
Eternal Light broadcasts to or-
iginate from the NBC studios in
Hollywood.
