Histadrut Rally to Close
Campaign Sunday Evening

More than 3,000 contributors to
ancldd workers for the 1948 Detroit
Histadrut (Gewerkshaften) cam-
paign are expected to attend the
closing rally at Cass- High School
on Sunday evening, to hear the
addres of Bartley C. Crum, na-
tional chairman of Americans for
Ha ganah.
This event will be utilized, to
demonstrate Detroit's solidarity
with • the Yishuv, to protest

for and concert tenor, will make
his first Detroit appearance as
guest artist at this event. Halevy
Singing Society, which recently
became a branch of the Labor
Zionist Organization, will open
the program with selections un-
der the direction of Pavel Slaven-
sky. Bella Goldberg will be ac,.
compariist and Nathan Mirten
baum, soloist.
Cantor Glantz, a native of Kiev,
Russia, first officiated as cantor
at the age of 8 when he replaced
his - grandfather at the altar. His
fame in later , years spread
throughout the world. He has ap-
peared at services and in con-
certs in Russia,* Romania, Pales-
tine, Mexico, South Africa and in
many of the large cities in the
United States. He is known also
as composer; critic and theorist.
He will be accompanied by Re-
becca Frohman.
Among those who will partici-
pate in Sunday evening's event
will be Harry Schumer, chairman
of the 1948 drive for a goal of
$250,000; Morris L. Schtiver, hon-
orary chairman; a speaker in be-
half of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign and • Sam Rabinowitz,
Gewerkshaften executive direc-
tor. A presentation by Habonim
labor Zionist youth organization
will conclude the program.
The campaign committee sex-
presses thanks to - George. A. Gar-
dena, a non-Jewish business man,
for his encouragement in the
form of a $250 contribution made
through Max Bachman. •

Lithuanian Jews' Banquet Sunday;
Rosowsky, Mrs. Goldoftas to Speak

Detroit branch of the Federa-i
tion of Lithuanian Jews of Amer-
ica will hold its annual banquet
Sunday, March 21, at Bel-Aire, in
order to mobilize forces here in
support of the Federation's relief
efforts for Lithuanian Jews
throughout the world.
Isaiah Rosowsky, national exec-
utive director, will be guest
speaker. Mrs. Shulamith Goldof-
ths, who recently returned from
a three-month tour of Palestine,
will describe her experiences.
There will be a musical program.
M. Glickman, president of the
Detroit branch, announces that
S. Jacobson, former president,
will be on the program and that
reservations may still be made
by calling the chairman of the
ticket committee, Mrs. Max Gold-
berg, .2670 Pasadena, TO.. 5-2879.
Mr. Rosowsky, former HIAS
director in Kowno, who arrived in
Detroit early, this week, pointed
out that while the UJA efforts
are of the utmost importance the
Lithuanian Federation renders
supplementary aid by reaching
out to groups of Lithuanian Jews



who have made direct appeals to
this country for immediate as-
sistance. He csaid • that the relief
fund of his rederation_helps - the
nearly 35,000 Jews in Lithuania
—25,000 in Wilno, 4,000 in Kow-
no and 4,000 in the rest of Lith-
uania; and --former Lithuanian
Jews in Soviet Russia, Siberia,
Switzerland, Sweden, 'France, It-
aly, Palestine and the -DP camps.
Funds of the Federation- are usecl
to assist the Children's Home in
Kowno and other institutions in
Lithuania, Mr. Rosowsky said.
"Letters received by the scores
by Detroiters from Lithuanian
Jews indicate the great need,"
Mr. Rosowsky said, "and the
gratitude they express in follow-
up messages indicate what a
splendid fob is being done and
how essential our work is for the
survival of the remnant 61 Lith-
uanian Jews who survived the
Nazi terror. It is sincerely to be
hoped that many Detroit - Jews
will respond to our call, will at-
tend the banquet on. Sunday and
will aid us in our work in the
future."

Death Calls Nathan H. Seidman,
Prominent Advertising Leader

The death in New York, on
March 10, at the age of 64, of
Nathan H. Seidman, president of
the Inter-racial Press of Amer-
ica, leaves a void in newspaper
circles. His passing is mourned
not only in Jewish quarters but
also in practically all "non Ezig-
lish language circles where he
was widely known.
Mr. Seidman, whose home was
.at 8380-118th St., Kew Gardens,
Queens, New York, was born in
Russia and came to this country
as a young boy. A former presi-
dent of the American Association
of Foreign Language Newspa-
pers, he was a student of inter-
racial and . inter-faith problems
and had befriended .practically
every editor of every foreign
language periodical in America:
He was founder and chairmin.-of
the Brooklyn CiVic Forum and
trustee and chairman . of the
Forum Education Committee .of
Brooklyn Jewish: Center.
- Founder, and for four Years
president,. of Kew Gardens--. Tem-
ple Isaiah, Mr. .Seidman also
served as secretary and member
of the executive of the New You
Federation of Reform Syna-
gogues, •a • member of the.. Airier-

Hills Bnai Brith and vice-presi-
dent of Kew Gardens Zionist
District.
During the war he was chair-
man of the foreign language
press division of all seven War
Loans, USO National War Fund,
New York Heart Campaign, Na-
tional Clothing Collection and
other patriotic movements.
In Detroit, he was a familiar
figure, having visited here fre-
quently as advertising repre-
sentative of weekly newspapers.
'He was a Close friend of all the
Fords and visited with them
often. •
He is survived by his wife,
three sons and two brothers.

of underground operations speed-
ing them to Palestine.
He takes a leading part in Zion-
ist affairs in the Long Island
Zionist Region. At present he is
executive director of American
Aid for Jewish Children of
Europe.
Morris Jacobs, ZOD president,

bers - of the newly-ekablished
chapters of ORT (Organization
for Rehabilitation through train-

Refugee Wins Nursing Award
NEW YORK (JPS)—Miss Gert-
rude F. Gunzehhauser, a German-
Jewish refugee who has been in
this country not quite eight years,
received the $200 David L. Po-
dell Award at graduation exer-
cises of the Beth Israel School of
Nursing here last week.

has been - cancelled by decision of
the Interim Committee on March
10. After reviewing recent; Jew-
ish developments in Palestine and
Europe, the Interim ComMittee
recorded its conviction "that the
emergency situation which called
the, Conference into being con-
tinues."
