More than 3,000 Detroit Jews, speaking through the rep-
resentatives who-filled Cass High School Auditorium on Tues,
day evening at the mass meeting arranged by the Zionist
-Council, American Christian Palestine 'Committee, Yiddish
Folk Organizations, Jewish Community Council and American

Jewish Congress, unanimously
went on record condemning any
attempts at compromising the
Jewish position. in Palestine and
demanding•actiop for the immed-
iate implementation of the UN
decision of November 29, 1947.
The resolution, which was icire-
-sented by Rabbi Leon Fram, de-
clared that—
The principle - of Jewish
statehood having been affirm-
ed, transfer of authority in
Palestine to the Jewish Agency
are considered by Jewry as
Mere technical details. "
Hailing the Provisional Pal-
. ktine Council, the Detroit
Jews ask for its immediate re-
cognition by the UN Palestine
Commission.
Detroit Jews pledge their
wholehearted support to the
.,Jewish S t a t e and resolire,
through the instrumentality of
the United Jewish Appeal, to
provide funds for it upbuild-
ing.
Detroit Jews resolve to 'avail
themselves of their rights as
Americans to combat by force
of truth lying propaganda of
those who seek to destroy the
UN decision.
Decrying the impairment of
the moral leadership of the U.
S. Government in the failure
to live up to the tradition
which led to this country's lead-
ership in striving for the crea-
tion of a Jewish State, the as-
sembly• called upon "our Gov-
ernment to return to the policy
of direct and forthright leader-
ship
... to implement the de-
,
eision of the United Nations
and to repel the Arab aggres-
sors within and without Pales-
tine."
Our Government eis asked to
address itself firmly to Great
Britain "to cease its sabotage of
the United Nations' decision
. . to cea.F.-/ the shipment of
arms to agifessor Arab states,
' • to coolie/ate with the UN
Palestine Commission, by open-
ing immediately the port of Tel
Aviv for Jewish immigration,
for the supply of arms for- de-
fense."
A request is made of , our
Government to intercede with
Britain "to case forthwith its
policy of international anti-
Semitic propaganda" such as
its recent statement to Palestine
Jewry that they are forfeiting
their rights "to be numbered
among civilized peoples."
The demand is made that the
ex-Mufti "be immediately put
to trial as an international cri-
minal."
The more than two-thirds of
the nations who voted for the
partition decision are asked to
"stand fast by it."
President Truman is asked to
abolish at once "the outrageous
State Department embargo" on
arms, food, steel and other es-
sentials needed by the Jews of
Palestine for self-defense and
to place an embargo on mater-
ials to those who are violating
the UN decision& "Weapons
should be sent to all who co-
operate with the UN and de-
nied to .all who defy the UN."
The Jewish AgetiOf is called
upon "to resist all 'suggestions
for compromising the partition
principle . . We shall never
surrender the free sovereign
Jewish State."
The principal address at the
- rally was delivered by Senator
Charles W. Tobey of New Hamp-
shire who also spoke briefly at a
dinner meeting of the Michigan
Chapter of the American Christ-
ian Palestine Committee. Judge
Frank A. Picard, chairman of the
Michigan chapter, presided at
the -dinner meeting.
'A stirring address was deliver-
ed at the -tally by Rabbi Morris

-
Adler, who called for -all-out sup-
port of the United Jewish Ap-
peal. Rabbi Adler introduced
Senator Tobey. Benjamin Laikin,
president of the Zionist Council,
opened the meeting, with an ad-
dress in Yiddish.
In his talk, Rabbi Adler des-
cribed the Palestine situation as
four-demensional. "Firstly," he
said, "Palestine is at the end of
the tragic crimsoned road which
our brethren in Europe trod
through the black era of Hitler.
That continent has become . the
burial place of millions of Jews.
The "Shearit Ha-Pleitah", sur-
viving remnant, has witnessed as
gruesome and inhuman a scene as
ever human beings. saw. Dark
memories haunt them. Palestine
spells release and convalescence.
It spells home and the opportun-
ity for rest, for acceptance, for
peace, for equality-for the re-
sumption of normal living in the
midst of one's fellows.
"But Palestine is hot only the
end of the road for uprooted
European Jews," he continued.
"It lies at the end of a highway
of Jewish vision, hope and na-
tional aspiration for 20 centuries.
It is the expression of the Jew-
ish will td live, to create, 'to con:
tribute."-
Rabbi Adler emphasized that
in the solution of the Palestinian
crisis is involved the future of
an organized world community.•
The attitude of the world to hu-
man rights and its sensitivity to
the human sorrows, is mirrored
by its action in the matter of a
Jewish° state. Jews concerned
over their own destiny, are
moved to sad reflections as a
world evidences its inability to
move into the sphere of interna-
tional right and morality," he de-
clared.
"American Jews," Rabbi Adler
concluded, "are infinitely de-
pressed by the vacillation, vague-
ness and evasiveness of their own
government."

the Detroit City Council, was
given an ovation by the large

which-was observed on March 17,
will be honored this Saturday
night by the Detroit Chapter of
American Jewish Congress with
a Purim dance at Northwest
Hebrew Congregation.

Tobey to Detroit in behalf of
the Council, he condemned the
"moral crime of anti-Semitism"
and decried the continued degra-
dation of Jews who survived the
Nazi terrors and who are seeking
a home in Palestine.
Referring to Palestine as a
moral probleni, Edwards de-
clared that "it is a _world . duty
to see to it that Jews have a
home in Palestine" and urged
that the UN, h_aving made a de-
cision, should live up to it. He
added that the United- States
must stand up to the test in this
issue.
Senator Lobey's Address
-- Senator TO bey declared in his
stirring address: "I am for a
Jewish Palestine and I believe
it is essential for the peace of
the world. Decency and justice
demand it."
Outlining the events which led
to the UN Palestine decision,
Senator Tobey condemned Brit-
ish acts in Palestine and severely
criticized the sale of munitions
to the Arabs and the smuggling
of American weapons to the ene-
mies of the Jewish people.
Paying tribute to Dov Gruner
and other martyrs who lost their
lives in Palestine, Senator Tobey
warned that if Arab aggression
succeeds it will undermine the
authority of the UN and of world
peace.
