Midtown Council Views
Neighborhood Traffic,
Recreational Problems

- Appointment of committees to
deal with the elimination of
traffic hazards and with the use
of vacant lots for the use of
recreational purposes is being
considered by the Midtown
Neighborhood Council.
Another important problem
which concerns residents of the
Midtown area is the question of
appearance of buildings and
grounds. A strong sentiment has
been expressed for a clean-up
campaign in the Spring.
All residents of 12th St. area
who are interested in the pre-
servation ofproperty values and
in the improvement of the neigh-
borhood are invited to participate
in the work of the Midtown
Council.

Treasury Dept. Attention

Since you haVe been requested by the State Department to
ascertain whether American Jewish relief organizations have been
implicated in the rescue of European Jews and migrating them—via
Haganah vessels—to Palestine, it may not be too presumptuous of
us to suggest that you investigate the Near East Relief Association.
founded by Arab-Americans ostensibly for the purpose of providing
medical aid to the Arab of the whole Near East and particularly
Palestine. A representative of the Arab Higher Committee has been
touring the United States to raise moneys for the association. It is
the consensus of opinion in informed circles that any funds the Arab
Higher Committee raises go for but one purpose—arms against the
UN decision. In the past the Mufti spent for arms against the Jews
moneys he had raised ostensibly for religious institutions. Medical
services sound' even better because they can embrace both Moslem
and Christian Arabs. At any rate, even the medical services are—
not hospitals for women and children; they are mobile hospitals for
the Arab brigands attacking Jewish settlei -nents in Palestine' and
defying the UN. Treasury Department please investigate.

Attention Campusers

The American Council for Judaism has begun to organize on the
campus. Needless to say, its appearance in colleges and universities
can only result in dissension among Jewish students and in circulat-
ing among non-Jews the Council's customary libels about - dual
allegiance," the dangers of Jewish "nationalism," the Arabic line
against fellow-Jews. We think all Jewish students' organizations
should be on their guard to combat the American Fearster's '(no
misprint) propagandists. Campuses already stricken are University
of Texas (fortunately only 14 members), Smith College (eight-mem-
bers), and attempts are being made to infiltrate into the Universities
of Pennsylvania, Alabama and Georgia.
