Death Ends Walter Fieavenrich's-
Leadership in Community Affairs

•Walter S. Heavenrich, a mem--
her of one of Detroit's oldest
Jewish families and an active
participant in Jewish and • civic
affairs, died at his desk in the
Penobscot Bldg., Feb. 5.
Born in Detroit, Feb. 15, 1868,
Heavenrich was a graduate of
the Detroit public schools and

He is survived by his wife,
the former Anna Marymont,
whom he married in 1899; a son,
Samuel Heavenrich, II; three sis-
ters, and two brothers.
Fueral services were conduct-
ed at Temple Beth El.

Following the family tradition
Set by his father, Heavenrich was
active in community efforts of
all kinds, and the community's
affection and respect for _him was
publicly acknowledged on nu-
merous occasions.
The oldest member of Temple
Beth, El; measured by length of
membership, Heavenrich was a
trustee and former president of
the congregation. He • was the
organizer of the Beth El Library.
In 1891, with two other men,
Heavenrich founded the Detroit
High. School Scholarship • Fund,
of which he was president. He
was a former member of the
advisory board of the City' Plan

He was active for years in the
Allied Jewish Campaign as a
member of the Detroit Service
Group and in the Community

tary Ball of the Jewish War Vet-
erans to be held at the Masonic
Temple, Saturday, Feb. 28.

19 posts and 15 auxiliaries led by
the Department of Michigan's
own Color Guard, under the di-
rection of Captain Roy C. Cohen.
A call has been issued by the
Jewish War Veterans' national
headquarters requesting the im-
mediate cooperation of all posts
in the collection of embargo-free
material for the Haganah de-
fense forces, -limited exclusively
to compasseS and binoculars.
This material is badly needed
in repelling attacks on the Jew-
ish defenders of Palestine. It is
suggested that all JWV units un-
