RETRIBUTION
The mother wondered.
She was sitting in the dimly-
lit study, trying to figure out why
Johnny had been ousted from
the neighborhood club.
Her son was good and he was
alert. When they moved to that
section two months ago, she
thought the other children liked
him. Why a sudden change when
they discovered that Johnny was
not of the same religion as they
were? The mother sighed. She
burst into tears when she re-
alized this was prejudice at its
full strength, getting a foothold
in the minds of youngsters. But
where did these innocent chil-
dren grasp such hatred?
Then the parent remtmbered
what she and her husband had
dons when Johnny wanted to
play with a tertain child. They
had moved out of that district
because they didn't want their
boy to be in such close contact
with one whose skin was of an-.
other color.
The tears fell more 'quickly.
now and there was fear and re-
pentence expressed in her sob-
bing, for she was face-to-face
with the same narrow attitude
that was once her own.
And yet the people wonder.
