Scouts to Observe
Movement's Birthday

Mrs. Avis • Shulman, wife of
Rabbi Charles Shulman of New
York, will be guest speaker at
the annual donor luncheon of the
Sisterhood of the Northwest
Hebrew Congregation Wednes-

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1948,
Shaarey Zedek Boy Scouts will
mark the anniversary of Scouting
in America with an elaborate
program under the auspices of
the Men's Club and staged by the
various Boy Scout units spon-
sored by the Men's Club and Girl
Scouts sponsored by the Sister-
hood.
The following features will be
staged by various troops:

1. Cubbfrig on Parade by Cub Pack
104; Harry Frank, cubmaster, Bernard
Bladen, committee chairman.
2. Brownie Story — Brownie Troop
600; Mrs Albert Green, leader, Mrs
Ben Kohlen, committee chairman.
3. "Books Don't Bite"—Girl Scout
Troop 97; Mrs Harry Baum, leader,
Harry Baum, committee chairinan.
4. First Aid in Reverse—Boy Scout
Troop 164; Abraham Samsky, scout-
master. Arthur Snide r, committee
chairman.
5. The Feather",—Boy Scout Troop
104; Murray Teichman, scoutmaster,
John Kurland, committee chairman.
6. "Ballad for Americans"—Post 104
Explorer Scouts; Paul Salomon, Post
Advisor, Herman Fishman, commit-
tee chairman.

day afternoon, Feb. 11, at the
synagogue. Her topic will be
"Women in a Changing World."
Mrs. Shulman, a graduate of
the University of Cincinnati,, is
one of the few women to have
received a degree from Hebrew
Union College. She did gradu-
ate work at Northwestern Uni-
versity and the University of
Chicago and has 'travelled ex-
tensively in Europe, Palestine
and the Near East.
The luncheon program will
feature a pageant, "Jewish Wo-
men through the Ages," written
by Mrs. Walter Farber and di-
rected by Mrs. Philip Helfman
and Mrs. Alexander Moss. Parti-
cipants include Mrs. Harry
Nachman, narrator, Mrs. Al
Egren, accompanist, and Mes-
dames D. Aaron, R. Brodman,
E. Brook, A. Feldman, S. Hecker,
D. Katkin, J. Levine ; I. Miller,
G. Pearlman, F. Robinson, F.
Schultz and M. Tchor.
Musical selections will be pres-
ented by the Sisterhood Choral
Group.
Mrs. Alex Brooks is donor
chairman. Reservations may be
made with Mrs. Charles Charlip,
UN. 2-8485, or Mrs. Mitchell Sch-
ram, UN. 2-5063.
Proceeds will go toward the
synagogue building fund.

Seth Aaron School
Ends First Term

The conclusion of the first se-
mester . of the Beth Aaron. Sun-
day School was marked by a
final assembly followed by a
parent-teacher conference. At
the assembly parents and stu-
dents saw the Palestinian film,
"A House in the Desert." Reci-
tations about Hamishah Asar
b'Shevat were given.
The parent-teacher conference
was • addressed by Bernard Pa-
nush, principal of the Sunday
school; Mrs. Paul Carpenter,
chairman of the Sisterhood
bOard, and Bernard Isaacs, su-
perintendent. of the United He-
brew Schools. Plans were an-
nounced for the formation of
new classes with the beginning
of the second term.
All parents in the northwest
section whose children do not
attend any Sunday school are
urged to register their youngsters
as soon as possible. Sessions are
held from 10 to 11:45 every Sun-
day morning at the Shultz Pub-
lic School, Manor . corner Santa
Maria.

Albert Green, president of the
Men's Club, announced that Sam
Berke will act as chairman and
Morris Klaus as co-chairman of
the evening. The program, to be
staged in the social hall of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek, is
scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
and will conclude with refresh-
ments.
The Scouts will observe Scout
Sabbath on Saturday morning,
Feb. 7. Various troops of Shaarey
Zedek will attend services in full
Scout uniform and special Scout
services will be held in the main
auditorium.

13 Day Students
To Get Diplomas
At Beth Yehudah

Ten pupils who have completed
the sixth grade of the elernqn-
tary department, and 3 grad sates
from the intermediate section,
will take part.iii the commence-
ment exercises of the Day School
of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah at
8:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, Rabbi
Max J. Wohlgelernter, president
of the Yeshivah, announces.
Progress of the Yeshivah's Day
School towards a 12-grade pro-
gram will be marked by the
opening• of an 11th grade when
the new semester begins.
Appointment of Charlotte Kel-
man to the elementary depart-
ment teaching staff was an-
nounced by Rabbi Wohlgelernter.
Miss Kelman is a graduate of
Wayne University and the United
Hebrew Schools. She also is an
instructor in the Sunday School
of Shaarey Zedek and engages
actively in Young Israel work.
The Feb. 15 exercises will
inaugurate the Yeshivah's an-
nual observance of Torah Month.
Sunday evening, March 14, the
annual patrons' dinner will take
place at Bnai Moshe.

Bnai David Sisterhood
Plans Musical Program,
Sabbath Dramatization

Mrs. Ben Fellows, program
chairman of Bnai 'David Sister
hood, announces that the annual
musical evening of the Sisterhood
will take place at 8:30 p.m. Mon-
day, Feb. 9,, at : the Synagogue
Social hall.
Featured on the program will
be William. Berghoff, • violinist,
candidate for the Eastrnan School
of Music.

BAECK, symbol of Jewry's tri-
umph over the force of hate pro-
claimed by Nazism, who will be
greeted 'by all Jewry—Orthodox,
Conservative and Reform—as one
of the heroes of the Nazi era, who
defied Hitler and who was
dragged off in 1943 to the in-
famous Theresienstadt concentra-
tion camp.
Dr. Baeck comes to • Detroit as
the guest of Temple Beth El and
Temple Israel at a dinner in his
honor on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the
Statler Hotel.

Bnai Moshe Fathers,
Sons Have Get-Together

Cong. Bnai Moshe fathers and
sons will hold their annual get-
together dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday, Feb. 11, in the social hall
of the synagogue.
Dinner will be followed by en-
tertainment, including a magi-
cian's show, and 1947 World
Series pictures.
The event is sponsored by the
