Detroiters Have Reunion
With Palestinian Sister

Mr. and Mrs. Baruch Igra of
Haifa, Palestine, brother-in-law
and sister of Harry Seltzer of
3276 Clements and William Selt-
zer of 16922 Wildemere, are in
Detroit for a six-month visit.
Mrs. Igra had not seen her
brothers for 30 years, prior to
their reunion in New York this
month.
The Igras' three sins remained
in Palestine. They are active
members of the Haganah.

Syrian Government to Oust
Jewish Students in Beirut
JERUSALEM (JTA) — A dis-
patch from Beirut said that the
Lebanese Government has noti-
fied the American University here
that 60 Jewish students at the
institution must leave the coun-
try by Jan. 31.

Four Detroiters were elected to
the board of directors of the Joint
Distribution Committee at the or-
ganization's 33rd annual meeting
in New York.
Judge Theodore Levin and Nate
S. Shapero were named new di-
rectors, while Julian H. Krolik
and Abraham Srere retained their
positions on the board.
New members of the JDC na-
tional council for Detroit are Rab-
bi Morris Adler, Louis Berry,
Tom Borman, Rabbi Leon Fram,
rs. Max Frank, Morris L. Frum-
an, Jospeh Holtzman, Ben Klein,
Dr. Charles Lakoff, Nathan
Lurie, Milton K. Mahler, Mrs.
Robert J. Newman, Benjamin L.
Silberstein, Louis Tabashnik,
Leon Wayburn, Mrs. Henry Wine-
man, Lew Wisper, Max J. Zivian.
Reelected to the council were
Harry Becker, Mrs. Hyman C.
Broder, Maurice A. Enggass, Ben
B. Fenton, John E. Lurie, Nate
S. Shapero and Rabbi Max Wohl-
gelernter.

Dutch Woman Executed for
Betraying Jews to Gestapo
AMSTERDAM (JTA) — Ans
Van Dijk, 42, was executed for
betraying Jews to the Gestapo
during the occupation. The wo-
man, allegedly Jewish, was con-
victed by a Dutch court last
March.

BRANDEIS LODGE of Bnai
Brith will honor the members of
its Bowling League at a bowlers'
night program Tuesday, Jan. 27,
in recognition of the bowlers' as-
sistance to the lodge through a
recent fund-raising effort. Moe
R. Miller, lodge president, invites
all members and friends to attend.

were in charge of the benefit

Next Wednesday, LOUIS MAR-
SHALL LODGE of Bnai Brith
will be guests of LOUIS MAR-
SHALL BOWLING LEAGUE at
a sports night at Workmen's
Center, Linwood at Burlingame.
Sportwriters, radio announcers,
outstanding stars of bowling,
football, boxing and other sports
will be represented. Refresh-
rnents will be served. Members
of the lodge are to come
early for choice seats.

Pisgah Seeks 450
Members As Part
Of District Drive

Isadore Starr, chairman of Pis-
gah lodge membership committee
announce that plans have been
completed for a concentrated
membership drive in honor of
Pisgah Lodge's 90th anniversary
year.
The drive will begin at a meet-
ing Feb. 2, which will feature
several outstanding sports per-
sOnalities and the showing of the
official Rose Bowl football game
pictures.
Pisgah Lodge, in inaugurating
its membership drive, is joining
in the District Grand Lodge No.
6 districtwide campaign. The
largest quota in the District has
been assigned to Pisgah-450 new
members, representing five new
members for each year of the
lodge's existence.

A Jewish army of at least 30,-
000 could be enlisted in the Jew-
ish state, Mayor Rokach told a
press conference held here under
the auspices of the American
, Zionist Emergency Council. It
could take over defense matters
after the international force had
carried out its work, he said.
Asked to comment on the Arab
League's threats to send in Arab
armies after withdrawal of the
British, Mayor Rokach said this
would be "a declaration of war
not against us but against the
UN," and would necessitate an
appeal by the Jewish state to the
UN to oppose .such an invasion.
