Lewisohn Speaks At Shaarey Zedek Dr. Glazer to Give Lecture Course for Beth El Sisterhood "The Jewish Child in the Mod- ern World" is the over-all title for a course of four lectures for Temple Beth El Sisterhood Mem- bers and friends, to be given in the Brown Mem- orial Chapel for Dr. B. Benedict Glazer- from 11 a. m. , to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, beginning Jan. 20. Dr. Glazer's Dr. Glazer first talk will be on the topic "The World We Live In Today— How Does It Affect Our Chil- dren?" The second lecture, on Jana 27, will deal with "The Spe- cial Problem of Jewish Children —What Is the Right Approach?" On Feb. 3, Dr. Glazer will dis- cuss "The Jewish Home—Out- lines of a Wholesome Environ- ment." The final meeting, on Feb.' 10, will consider "Facing the Future—What Lies Ahead for the Je*wish Child?" Mrs. Seymour Tilchin and Mrs. Lewis Daniels are co-chairmen for the series. Shaarey Zedek, Northwest Youth Groups to Debate On Religion in Schools The combined youth groups of Shaarey Zedek, Temple Beth El, Temple Israel and Northwest Congregation will hold the sec- ond in the series of "Youth Speaks" forums at 7:45 p. m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Hampton school. Shaarey Zedek will oppose Northwest Congregation in the discussion of the topic "Should We Have Compulsory Religious Education In Our Public Schools?" All students are in- vited to attend and participate in the open discussion which will follow- the debate. A social hour of dancing and refreshments, with Temple Israel acting as host, will complete 'the evening. Avis Shulman to Speak At N. W. SIMON GREENBERG Dr. Simon Greenberg, Provost and professor of education of the Jewish Theological Seminary, will be guest speaker at the din- ner in honor of Rabbis A. M. Hershman and Morris Adler of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, at the synagogue social hall, Mon- day evening, Jan. 19, Abraham Srere, chairman, announced. The dinner will launch Shaar- ey Zedek's- $100,000 drive for the Seminary. Ordained as Rabbi in 1925, Dr. Greenberg served for 20 years as Rabbi of Congregation Har Zion, Philadelphia. He received his Ph. D. degree from Dropsie College, and pursued graduate studies at the Hebrew University and American School for Oriental Research in Jerusalem. He is a former president. of the Rabbin- ical Assembly of America and is author of "Living as a Jew To- day," "The Ideals of the Jew- ish Prayer Book." Judge Toms to Address Temple Israel Men's Club A membership rally of Mizra- chi Organization of Detroit will be held this Saturday evening at Congregation Mogen Avrohom, Dexter at Cortland. Light Script Tells Story Of Moses Mendelssohn To mark the seventh anniver- sary of the definition of The Four Freedoms by President Roosevelt, the Eternal Liglit will present a special re-broadcast of "Moses Mendelssohn", a story of the 18th century theologian who champi- oned religious right in Germany, on Sunday, Jan. 18, on station WWJ. The script was written by Morton Wishengrad. Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka is De- troit chairman of the% 25th anni- versary scholarship campaign for the Hebrew Theological College of Chicago, the only institution of its kind in the middle-west. The scholarship will aid stu- dents from 33 cities in this coun- try, including Detroit, as well as from Canada and Europe. • Over 100 graduates of the College, in- cluding five Detroiters, now occu- py pulpits in American and Canadian communities. Sixteen are commissioned officers in the Chaplains Corps and 32 are civilian chaplains. Four graduates are Bnai Brith Hillel directors. Samuel H.
