Registration for the spring
semester, beginning Feb. 2, is now
underway at Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah, Dexter at Cortland.
Classes are, open in the fol-
lowing departments: Pre-kinder-
garten, kindergarten, yeshivah
day school, afternoon yeshivah
training classes, Beth Jacob after-
noon classes for girls.
An afternon yeshivah class for
boys is being opened at Beth
Tefilo Emanuel Synagogue, Tay-
lor and Woodrow Wilson, under
the supervision of Beth Yehudah.

Shaarey Zedek, Northwest
Youth Groups to Debate
On Religion in Schools

The combined youth groups of
Shaarey Zedek, Temple Beth El,
Temple Israel and Northwest
Congregation will hold the sec-
ond in the series of "Youth
Speaks" forums at 7:45 p. m.
Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Hampton
school.
Shaarey Zedek will oppose
Northwest Congregation in the
discussion of the topic "Should
We Have Compulsory Religious
Education In Our Public
Schools?" All students are in-
vited to attend and participate
in the open discussion which will
follow- the debate. A social hour
of dancing and refreshments,
with Temple Israel acting as host,
will complete 'the evening.

Avis Shulman to Speak
At N. W. Donor Luncheon

Mrs. Avis Shulman, wife of
Rabbit Charles Shulman of New.
York, will be guest speaker at
the donor luncheon of the Sister-
hood of Northwest Hebrew Con-
gregation and Center, Wednes-
day. afternoon, Feb. 11, at the
Synagogue.
The program will also feature
a pageant, "Jewish Women
Through the Ages," and presen-
tations by the Sisterhood Choral
Group.
Fifty women attended the tea
given last Tuesday afternoon by
Mrs. Sol Slomovitz at her home
on Woodingham Drive to hear
reports , on the progress being
made by the donor luncheon
committee. A luncheon will be
given this Monday by Mrs. Len-
ore Dunsky, program book chair-
man at her home on Roselawn
Ave. for captains on this com-
mittee.
Reservations for the luncheon
are being taken by Mrs. Charles
Charlip, UN. 2-8485, and Mrs..

Mrs. Joseph Markel, president,
has called a board meeting for

Dr. Simon Greenberg, Provost
and professor of education of the
Jewish Theological Seminary,
will be guest speaker at the din-
ner in honor of Rabbis A. M.
Hershman and Morris Adler of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek, at
the synagogue social hall, Mon-
day evening, Jan. 19, Abraham
Srere, chairman, announced.
The dinner will launch Shaar-
ey Zedek's- $100,000 drive for the
Seminary.
Ordained as Rabbi in 1925, Dr.
Greenberg served for 20 years
as Rabbi of Congregation Har
Zion, Philadelphia. He received
his Ph. D. degree from Dropsie
College, and pursued graduate
studies at the Hebrew University
and American School for Oriental
Research in Jerusalem. He is a
former president. of the Rabbin-
ical Assembly of America and is
author of "Living as a Jew To-
day," "The Ideals of the Jew-
ish Prayer Book."

Judge Toms to Address
Temple Israel Men's Club

A membership rally of Mizra-
chi Organization of Detroit will
be held this Saturday evening at
Congregation Mogen Avrohom,
Dexter at Cortland. Rabbi Ben-
jamin Groner of Windsor will
address the rally. A report of the
Mizrachi regional conference held
in Toledo on Jan. 4 also will be
part of the program.
T h e Mizrachi membership
drive is attracting city wide at-
tention. Congregation Beth Ab-
raham is the third in the list of
synagogues that are forming Miz-
rachi branches by enrolling all
members. Louis Ellenbogen, Mor-
ris Weller, Morris Mohr, Michael
Weisler and Jacob Landgarten
are leading the Beth Abraham
drive. Sol B. Edelman has en-
rolled seven life members and is
making a record in this field.
An intensified effort is being
made to increase the sale of She-
kolim. Hanoar Hamizrachi of
Wayne University and Young Is-
rael of Detroit sold shekolim for
Mizrachi.

Light Script Tells Story
Of Moses Mendelssohn

To mark the seventh anniver-
sary of the definition of The Four
Freedoms by President Roosevelt,
the Eternal Liglit will present a
special re-broadcast of "Moses
Mendelssohn", a story of the 18th
century theologian who champi-
oned religious right in Germany,
on Sunday, Jan. 18, on station
WWJ. The script was written by
Morton Wishengrad.

Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka is De-
troit chairman of the% 25th anni-
versary scholarship campaign for
the Hebrew Theological College
of Chicago, the only institution
of its kind in the middle-west.
The scholarship will aid stu-
dents from 33 cities in this coun-
try, including Detroit, as well as
from Canada and Europe. • Over
100 graduates of the College, in-
cluding five Detroiters, now occu-
py pulpits in American and
Canadian communities. Sixteen
are commissioned officers in the
Chaplains Corps and 32 are
civilian chaplains. Four graduates
are Bnai Brith Hillel directors.
Samuel H. Ross is now in the
community as the accredited rep-
resentative of the Hebrew Theo-
logical College, to solicit con-
tributions and annual member-
ships.

Robert M. Toms. Judge Toms
has recently returned from Nu-
ernberg, Germany, where for the
last year he has been a member
of the U. S. Military Tribunal,
sitting in judgment on secondary
officials in the Nazi hierarchy.
