Zionist Shekel Day Sunday;
Torczyner to Speak Monday

ZOD House Canvas to Be Preceded by Breakfast for
Workers on Sunday Morning; Dance for Highest Shekel
Salesmen;' Rally Monday at N. W. Synagogue

This Sunday, Jan. 11, will be
observed as ZOA Shekel Mobili-
zation Day, Morris M. Jacobs,
president of the Zionist Organi-
zation of Detroit, announced.
Commencing with a breakfast
rally at the Rose Sittig Cohen
Bldg., at 10 a. m., with Mr. Ja-
cobs as speaker, the participating
workers will devote the entire
day to a canvas of Jewish homes
in the city to sell Shekolim for
the forthcoming elections to the
World Zionist Congress.
Mrs. Moe Perlis is chairman of
arrangements' for the breakfast
and is assisted by Mesdames Na-
than SpevakoW, Lawrence Crohn,
Morris Jacobs, Albert Feldstein,
Walter Silver and Harry Cascade.
Dance for Workers
. By decision of the board of di-
rectors of the Detroit Zionist Or-
ganization, workers who sell 10
or more Shekolim each will be
honored at a dance and party at
the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. upon
conclusion of the Shekel canvas
on Sunday evening. A prize has
been offered by Charlie Wolok,
ZOD treasurer, to the person sell-
ing the largest number of Shek-
olim.

Harold B. Weisman, chairman
of the ZOD Shekel drive, an-
nounced this week that a large
volume of mail is arriving in the
ZOD office daily with returns of
Shekel reports and Shekel sales
from members. Weisman an-
nounces that the leading Shekel
salesman thus far is a new mem-
ber of ZOD Chapter I, Miss Ida
Kaufman.
The current sale of Shekolim
is for two years—the period be-
tween Zionist Congresses.
Torczyner Speaks Monday
Concluding the ZOD Shekel
drive, the local Zionists will be
addressed at a public meeting at
the Northwest Hebrew Congrega-
tion on Monday evening, Jan: 12,
by Jacques Torczyner, national
ZOA Shekel chairman. ,
Mr. Torczyner, who will speak
on "The Next World Zionist Con-
gress and You," has issued a na-
tional call for the sale of 100,000
ZOA Shekolim and has empha-
sized that "at the next Congress
the level-headed moderate atti-
tude of the General Zionist move-
ment must be felt."

Palestine Educator Named
Bernard Isaacs' Associate

Oscar Isenbergs Honored
On Fiftieth Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Isenberg
of 2648 Rochester celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
on Jan. 3 at Lachar's on Dexter.
A ceremony was performed., by
Rabbi J. Rabinowitz who gave
them a new marriage contract.
Their seven-year-old grandson,
David, acted as ring bearer.
Their oldest daughter, Mrs. Anna
Mankin, was hostess.
Speeches were delivered by
Mr. and Mrs. Isenberg, their
youngest son, Arnold, an army
veteran, and Dr. Levitt.
Born in Russia, Mr. and Mrs.
Isenberg came to the United
States in 1912 and to Detroit in
1915. Mr. Isenberg is a mem-
ber of Congregation Mishkan
Israel. Mrs. Isenberg is secretary
of Detroit Ladies Aid, Flower of
Zion, Independent Ladies Society
and was the organizer of Western
Ladies Aid Society. All these
organizations were represented
at their golden wedding an-
niversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Isenberg have
three daughters, Mrs. Mankin,
Mrs. Evelyn Holtzman and Mrs,
Sally Wasserman; three sons,
Leo, Joe and Arnold, and three
grandchildren.
