Janet Fish Is Bride

on Sunday to spend a few days in Chicago.
Dr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Cohn of Kentucky Ave. have as their
guest her aunt, Mrs. Sarah Harris of Miami Beach.
Dr. and Mrs. S. B. Danto of Chicago Blvd. are expected home on
Sunday from a South American cruise.
Asher Weisman of Collingwood Ave. is spending his vacation
in Washington, D. C., as the guest of his cousin, Fred iVeisman.
Eleanore and Joan Bachman of Parkside Ave. are spending the
holidays in Miami Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Milford Pregerson of Wildemere Ave. are visiting
friends in Palm Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lowenberg have left for Miami Beach
where they expect to spend the winter months.
Marabel Denenburg of Central Ave. is spending three weeks at the
Croydon Arms Hotel, Miami Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Bogart of White Plains, N. Y., directors
of Camp Wi-Co-Si-Ta in Bristol, N. H., are in Detroit for their
annual camp reunion, which is scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 3,
at the Founders' Room of the Book-Cadillac Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. David King (Harriett Morrison) were honored
at a party given by Mr. and Mrs. David Beck of Chicago Blvd.
Mrs. Morris Kar and son, Bobby, of Richton Ave., are spending
three weeks in New York with her parents, awaiting the arrival
of her grandparents, whom she has not seen for 15 years, from
Europe.
Mrs. Sarah Blass Schwartz of Webb Ave. is spending the winter
in Arizona and Los Angeles.
Dr. and Mrs.- Alvin B. Lezell of Ardmore Ave. are attending
the annual dental convention being held in Florida. They will also
visit in Cuba.
Shirley Rubin has as her guest Eric Silverman of Boston, for a
three-week visit.
Miss Carol Levy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Levy of Cin-
cinnati, 0. is spending the holiday season as the guest of Celia
Schmier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe A. Schmier of Sherbourne
road. -

honor of Janet Eileen Fish, whose marriage' to Walter H. Salzberg

Albert Margolin, Jean Koss, Sophie Blanche Schwartz, Mrs. Saul
Seidman, Mike Chusid and Mrs. Seymour Wohlman.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Howard are spending the month of January
at the Triton Hotel in Miami Beach.
Mrs. Dorothy Eisenman and children, Rosalyn Ann and Harold,
of 2919 Glynn Ct., left for an extended vacation in Miami.
Dr. and Mrs. Harry Burstein are now residing at their new
home, 18304 Warrington Dr.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Weber of Pasadena Ave. are spending the
New Year weekend at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Here on Jan. 20

Noted Actress and Singer
Returns for Single Perfor-
mance at Masonic Temple

Freidele Oisher, eminent ac-
tress and singer, who created a
sensation at her -last appearance
here in November, will be brought
back to Detroit by Abraham Litt-
man for one more performance,
in the Scottish Rite Cathedral of
Masonic Temple on Tuesday eve-
ning, Jan. 20.
Mr. Littman, who remains here
for three weeks after the success-
ful performance given on New
Year's Eve at the Masonic Temple,
announces that Freidele, who is
the sister of Moishe Oisher will
appear together with a large cast
of able actors in "A* Chazendel
Oif Shabbos" ("A Cantor for the
Sabbath")..
Tickets for Freidele Oisher's
performance will go on sale next
week.

Mayor Israel Rokach
Arrives in New York

NEW YORK (JTA)—Mayor Is-
rael Rokach of Tel Aviv arrived
here on Monday and was received
at the City Hall by Mayor Wil-
liam O'Dwyer. Mayor Rokach is
scheduled to adch4ss the JNF
conferences in New York this
week-end. He will speak in De-
troit Jan. 27 at the annual donor
event of the Ladies' Auxiliary of
the Jewish National Fund.

Knut Hams on Fined $85,000
For His Pro-Nazi Writings

OSLO, Norway (JPS---)Knut
Hamsun, 88-year-old Nobel Prize
winning author, was sentenced
by a Norwegian court to pay
425,000 kroner ($85,000) as dam-
ages for pro-Nazi articles he
wrote during the Nazi occupation
of Norway. The suit was filed by
the Norwegian Directorate of
Reparations after the state had
decided not to charge him with
treason.

Sisterhood Anniversary
Planned at Beth Aaron

Paul Carpenter, president of
the Men's Club of Beth Aaron
Synagogue, and Mrs. Sol Docks,
president of the Beth Aaron Sis-
terhood, announce the Men's Club
instaliction of officers, and the
fourth birthday party of the Sis-
terhood, to be held jointly at 8:30
p. m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at the
Synagogue.
Rabbi Benjamin Groner of
Shaar Hashomayim Synogogue of
Windsor, will install the new of-
ficers, and be guest speaker.
Officers to be installed are
President, Paul Carpenter; vice
presidents, Sam Schneider, Sol
Docks; treasurer, Dave Cohen;
secretaries, Morris Katz, Ernie
Deutsch; sgt. of arms, Bernard
Klein, and chaplain, Sam Freed-
man.
Mrs. Levine will be toastmis-
tress for the Sisterhood, and
neads their committee. The com-
mittee for the Men's Club in-
cludes Ben Drapkin, chairman,
Saul Docks, Dr. A. Winkler, Max
Silverman Irving Levine and
Max Richmond.
Members and friends are in-
vited.

Mrs. Marcuse Has Surprising
Record of Community Service

In every organization there is
at least one quiet, self-effacing
woman, who nevertheless serves
with real distinction and effec-
tive leadership. In the Women's
Division of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, that describes Mrs.
Philip R. Marcuse, member of
the committee on campaign
structure and vice-chairman of
general solicitation in the 1947
Allied Jewish Campaign.
Although she is one of the
younger active members of the
division, Mrs. Marcuse already

has a surprisingly full record of
community service. Her posts as
Chairman of the SOS Committee
of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth

The marriage of Janet Eileen
Fish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Sawyer of Monte Vista
Ave., to Walter H. Salzberg, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Salz-
berg of Fullerton Ave., was
solemnized Dec. 20 at Bel-Aire
Terrace.
Rabbi Morris Adler and Cantor
Jacob Sonenklar performed the
ceremony and the bride was
given in marriage by her grand-
father, Albert Grauer.
The bride's gown was of
candlelight slipper satin, with
cathedral train and off-the-
shoulder neckline of silk illusion,
trimmed with chantilly lace. Her
headdress was of silk illusion,
embroidered with crystal beads,
to which was attached a chan-
tilly lace mantilla. She carried a
white Bible with orchids and
satin streamers.
- The attendants included Shir-
ley Satt, cousin of the bride-
groom, maid-of-honor, and Mrs.
Charles Berman, Mrs. Albert
Margolin and Mike Chusid,
bridesmaids. Anita Louise Fidler
was flower girl.
The bridegroom was attended
by his brother, Clarence Salz-
berg, as best man, and his ushers
were Walter Holland of Flint,
Charles Berman and Gerald
Snitz.
Guests from Buffalo, Washing-
ton, D. C., Chicago, Baltimore,
New York and Los Angeles at-
tended the wedding.

Charles E. Saltzman, Assistant
Secretary of State for Occupied
Areas, who has just- returned
from Europe, will address the
annual meeting of United Service
for New Americans which will
be held at Commodore Hotel,
New York, Jan. 10 and 11, it
was announced. by Edwin Rosen-
berg, USNA president.
Speakers on Jan. 11 will in-
clude Rep. William G. Stratton
of Illinois; U. S. Commissioner
of Immigration and Naturaliza-
tion Watson B. Miller; Maj. Gen.
Walter A. Wood, Jr., Chief of
the Preparatory Commission for
the International Refugee Or-
ganization, and William Rosen-
wald, honorary president of
USN A and national chairman of
the . United Jewish Appeal,
through which United Service re-
ceives its funds.
Reports on United Service op-
erations and the agency's plans
for 1948 will be delivered at the
dinner meeting of the board of
directors on Saturday evening
by Mr. Rosenberg and Joseph E.
Beck, USNA executive director.
Speakers will also include Mrs.
Joseph M. Welt of Detroit, USNA
honorary president.

$110,000 Willed to JNF

LOS ANGELES.—Jacob Kahan
of Los Angeles, Calif., willed to
the Jewish National Fund most
of his estate, it was announced
by Theodore Strimling, president
of the Los Angeles JNF Council.
The sum of approximately $110,-
000, which includes mostly cash
and some stocks, has already
been turned over to the Keren
Kayemeth of Los Angeles by the
Farmers & Merchants National

Mrs. Marcuse is a native De-
troiter, the daughter of Mrs.
Isaac Gilbert and the late Mr.

from Vassar College, she obtained
her master's degree from the
University of Michigan. Listing

wife," Mrs. Marcuse is the busy
mother of two young children,
Philip, Jr., and Ann.
Mrs. Marcuse is also a mem-
ber of the National Council of
Jewish Women and formerly
served on the Board of Directors
of the local branch.
