Sunday in the Jewish Center

This historical exhibit entitled
"The Extermination of European
Jewry by the Nazis," consists of
over 250 photographs loaned by
the Archives of the Yiddish Sci-
entific Institute of- New York
(YIVO).

The collection of pictures was
gathered by individtials who slab,
mitted them to the Institide for
safekeeping. Previously, t h e
photos were on exihibt in. New
York. Detroit is .the first city'
outside of New York to view
them.
In conjunction-with the photo-
graphic exhibit, there is also a:
collection of Jewish language
newspapers and magazines pub-
lished in Europe since the . defeat
of the Nazis. -
One feature of the exhibit is a
map illustrating the distribution
of European Jewry in the post-
War world. Out: of approximate-
ly 9,50.0,000 JewS in 1939, ,little
more than 2,850,000 remain.
Mend1 Elkin, of the Yiddish
Scientific Institute, is in Detroit
to supervise the Show.

What music programs are be-
ing conducted at present in the
various Jewish- schools, agencies,
organizations and inbarmal groups
of Detroit is being ascertained-
thrOUgh a questionnaire sent out
by the music committee of the
professional advisory committee,
a subcommittee of the Jewish
Welfare Federation educational
planning commission.
Herman Jacobs, executive' di-
rectpr of the Jewish Center, is
chairman of the committee.
The committee plans to make
available recommendations and
suggestions to those maintaining
such a program or . V.Thci would
like to initiate one. The commit-
tee also is interested in deter-

A report on the findings of the
questionnaire ,should be ready the

The Philomathic Debating Club
is conducting an "alumni 'round-
up" in conjunction with the or-
ganization's forthcorning golden,
jubilee. -
Morton Zieve, co-ohairman rof
the 59th anniversary committee
reports that the purpose of the
"round-up" is ' to give as many
alumni as possible a chance to
attend -Philomathic's - golden jubi-
lee banquet, which Will be _held
Feb. •28 in the Book-Cadillac
Hotel.
Another event to be held in
conjunction with the golden jubi-
lee observance is Thilomathic's
32nd annual oratorical contest.
The first, and second-place ora-
tors at the contest; which is
scheduled for. Feb. 14, will com-
pete for gold and silver 'medals
at the jubilee banquet.

Erma Ella Ehrlich, former concentration camp inmate, address-
ing an overflow Pioneer Women's meeting Monday at the Stotler,
deplored that every effort will be made to settle 50,000 surviving
Jewish orphans` in. Palestine. The Meeting served to inspire the
workers, in their lund-raising campaign.
