YOUTH SPEAKS
"Do Our Public Schools Pre-
pare Us for a Democratic Way
of Life?" was the question dis-
cussed by Charlotte Arkin and
Danny Oppenheim of Temple
Israel and Jerry Bronson and
Anita Meskin of Temple Beth El
last Tuesday evening at the first
"Youth Speaks" forum. Repre-
senting Shaarey Zedek, where
the forum was held, were Alan
Luckoff, moderator, and Sidney
Klaus, interrogator. Northwest
Hebrew Congregation is also a
member of "Youth Speaks" and
will take part next month, with
Shaarey Zedek. A social hour,
with dancing and refreshments,
followed the discussion.
CENTRAL PLAY
He lost his friends by telling
"Nothing but the Truth" for 24
hours. Poor Gwen (Rhona Rott)
was confused by Bob's (Jerry
Rubiner) truthfulness when Ma-
bel and Sable (Esther Levine and
Eric Roe) danced into the office
of E. M. Ralston (Bob Kane) as
Martha (Fanny Swartz) put the
ashes under the rug, and Clar-
ence Van Dusen (Jerry Winkler)
swindled the Reverend Doran
(Stuart Kalman). Great was the
play, terrific the cast, and superb
the direction of Manuel S. Simon.
Seen from the wings were
Rhoda Baskin and Leon Kohlen.-
berg, Shirley Smith and Herby
Schubb, Connie Karbal with Stan
Statowski, Carolyn Shayowitz
and Ed Levy and Selina Berry
with Mary Langer.
BETH EL DANCE
"Mid Night Serenade" will be
the theme of the New Year's Eve
semi-formal dance to be spon-
sored by the High School of Tem-
ple Beth El. Art Starr's orchestra
will be featured at the festivities
in the Temple ballroom.

German Refugee Girl to Achieve
Life's Ambition of Nursing Career

Twenty-year-old Eva Lifshitz, whose adolescent years were
spent under the shadow of the Hitler terror in Germany, is going to
achieve her life's ambition, to become a registered nurse. Her train-
ing will be completed at Beth Israel Hospital in New York on a
scholarship furnished by ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation
Training).
Eva lost both her parents in theT school of nursing, and she enters.
Nazi extermination program, but training at Beth Israel in Febru-
her life was saved by a friendly ary. Eva feels that ORT is, in
