ZALMAN RUBASHOW

Rubashow was combined with
the rally of Jewish National
Workers Alliance Branch 114
under the chairmanship of M.
Goldoftas.
Declaring the sad circumstances
which marked inquiries by 21
commissions now are a matter of
the past, Rubashow said the Yi-
shuv feels. certain the Palestinian
Arabs will co-operate with them
and that the outside influence
of the Mufti will be defeated.
Visiting here with Rubashow
last Sunday were two other Pales-
tinians—Gershon Zak and Hertz
Antam, of Tel Aviv.
Mr. Zak reported progress was
being made in establishing the
Berl Katznelson Memoriam .Insti-
tute between Kfar Saba and Ra-
mat Hakovesh, on 100 dunams
of Jewish National Fund land.
He pointed out the Institute will
provide classes for 120 students
who will be trained in adminis-
tration of municipal government.
The students are to be college
graduates, 20 to 30 years old.
Plans are being made for an
amphitheater and other recrea-
tional and educational facilities
to serve neighboring Jewish col-
onies. Twelve buildings already
have been erected.

SLIP-COVERS

MUNICH, (JTA) — The Jewish
Agency will establish special
commissions to screen displaced
Jews desiring to immigrate to
Palestine.
The commissions, which will be
composed of representatives of
the Agency, the local Zionist par-
ties and DP organizations, will
group applicants in such cate-
gories as "youth," "technicians"
and "persons with close relations
in Palestine."
Agency offices in the major

cities of Germany have been.
swamped by hundreds of Jewn
within the past few days apply-.
ing for emigration. However,
the Agency officials have been
forced to tell the people that no
definite date for the start of legal,
large scale immigration to Pales-
tine has been set and that they
may have to wait until Aug. 1,
1948, when the British evacua-
tion of Palestine is slated to be
completed.

NEW YORK—Jewish rabbinic

tions through the Synagogue
Council of America, and Jewish
community relations agencies
through the National Community
Relations Advisory Council, in an
unprecedented action, have filed
a single joint brief with the U .S.
Supreme Court, in opposition to
religious instruction classes in
public schools.
The brief was submitted in sup-
port of an appeal by Vashti Mc-
Collum, of Champaign, Ill., from
a decision of the Illinois State
Supreme Court. Mrs. McCol-

dissociate themselves from her
anti-religious statements. -
Filed by the Jewish organiza-

brief is signed by Henry Epstein,
