Ex-Mufti Foments Trouble

Judea's Requirements
Told UPA by Kaplan

NEW YORK—With the aim of
enlisting the full-scale financial
support of American Jewry for a
program of mass migration to the
Jewish State and its over-all de-
velopment, Eliezer Kaplan, trea-
surer of the Jewish Agency for
Palestine, outlined for the United
Palestine Appeal board of direc-
tors at an emergency meeting
here on Sunday the broad cate-
gories of economic requirements
brought to the fore by the estab-
lishment of the Jewish State.
Eniphasizing the "most difficult
part of the job is still ahead of
us," Kaplan said "we plan to bring
a million Jews to Palestine in the
next 10 years." He declared that
the colonization program in 1948
will call for a minimum budget
of $400,000,000.

All the trouble in Palestine is
traceable to the former Mufti,
Haj Amin el Husseini (center)
who fled Palestine during the war
to help Hitler in Germany and
who issued calls for the exterm-
ination of Jewry. He now is in
Lebanon plotting uprisings in the
Jewish homeland. He is shown
here at a meeting in Beirut with
Arab League leaders, Bishop
Hakin (left) of Haifa and Isa
Bendak of Bethlehem, conspiring
to foment trouble between Arabs
and Jews.
On Monday the Mufti arrived
in Cairo to participate in the
Arab League conference.
The Christian Century, of Chi-
cago, a rabidly anti-Zionist pub-
lication, in a recent issue carried
a report from Beirut, quoting
from a letter to the UN from

.

the Maronite Archbishop of
Beirut, Msgr. Mobarak, in which
he expressed regret at not having
personally seen UNSCOP mem-
bers; emphasizing the, specifically
,Christian nature of Lebanon;
denying any relationships be-
tween the Lebanese and the
Arab (Moslem) newcomers in
his country and defending strong-
ly the rights of the Jews to ,a
state in Palestine and the final
settlement of all Jews in the
Holy Land. The report states
that Christian members of parlia-
ment called this statement "un-
Lebanese," that they filed pro-
tests against-A with the Maronite
Patriarch of Lebanon and with
the Vatican and that they brand-
ed IVIibbarak's statement as being
a personal opinion.
