JSSB Asks Doctors' Aid
In Securing Foster Homes

Detroit Jewish physicians in find-
ing foster homes for children, the
children's department of the Jew-
ish Social Service Bureau sent
out a special plea to all Jewish
members of the medical profes-
sion, requesting co-operation in
disseminating information about
the foster home program.

"Have You a Home Asking for a
Child?" the letter said "In our
continuous efforts to find foster
homes for children, we find it
necessary, from time to time, to
call upon various individuals in
the community to assist us in
meeting this great need. We are
now approaching you because in
your practice you meet with
many Jewish people who might
be willing to become foster par-
ents."
The admission of refugee chil-
dren has created an additional
need for foster homes, the letter
added. In addition to the many
Detroit Jewish boys and girls
who need foster homes, our
agency now has the responsibility
for refugee children, up to the
age of 20, for whom homes must
be found. We are certain that in
Our community there must be
many who would be willing to
serve as foster parents, to provide
hothes for every child still on our
waiting list."
Foster homes are needed in De-
troit for Jewish boys and girls
from the ages of 10 days to 20
years. The children's department
not only provides sufficient funds
to cover expenses of the children,
but provides staff assistance in
any other questions that arise in
the care of a child.
Anyone interested in becoming
a foster parent is invited to call
TR. 2-4080 and ask for "Foster
Homes."
Harold Silver, executive direct-
or of the Jewish Social Service
Bureau, and Goldie Goldstein,
case consultant, are in charge of
the foster home program.
