Programs at Center

Seymour Lipkin, 20-year-old
son of Dr. and Mrs. Ezra Lipkin,
of Webb Ave., was declared re-
gional winner of the second piano
contest of the Rachmaninoff
Fund, Inc., in Cleveland.
As a result, he will appear as
soloist with the Cleveland Sym-

Three business girls, representing the Catholic, Protestant and
Jewish faiths, light their candles as part of the joint celebration of
Christmas and Hanukah held at the Jewish Center Thursday evening.
Left to right are DELORES STANTON, president of the Al-Vo Club
of Highland Park Branch YWCA; FLORENCE SARUT, of the Career
Group of the National Council of Jewish Women, and RUTH
CORN/MR, of the YWCA.

Career Group of National Council of Jewish Women, in co-
operation with Christian community groups, this week inaugurated
a series of interfaith meetings which are winning high commenda-
tion for their effectiveness. Accentuating the two CHs in Christmas
and Chanukah, a joint celebration
of both festivals was arranged by
the Career Group for Thursday
evening, Dec. 11, at the Jewish
for a
Center.

Best Wishes

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Jewish News
and most Anglo-Jewish papers prefer
to use the short form Hanukah, drop-
ping the 'C'.

With the Al-Vo Club of the
YWCA as guests, the program in-
cluded an evaluation of the ele-
ments of good will. in -both -the
Christian and Jewish festival ob-
servances. The singing of holi-
day songs and the lighting of the
candles highlighted the program.
The Al-Vo Club is a group of
business and professional Catholic
and Protestant women.
Participants in the program at
the Jewish Center were Miss De-
lores Stanton, Catholic; Miss Ruth
Carnair, Protestant, and Miss
Shirley Altschuler, Jewish.
Recognizing the merits of such
programs, the Adult Fellowship
League of the Central Methodist
Church, Woodward and Adams,
has invited the Career Group to
be its guests at a similar cele-
bration this coming Sunday, at
the church.
Miss Pearl Devenow, leader of
the Council Career Group, will
describe the Chanukah festival at
the church, and the program will
feautre the showing of a goodwill
film depicting positive elements
which united all faiths in this
country.
