troops, continued fighting on the Tel Aviv-Jaffa border and

of passenger and food convoys
around Jerusalem and between
Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
. Jewish Agency chairman David
Ben Gurion called on High Com-
missioner Sir Alan G. Cunning-
ham to discuss the security situa-
tion. Ben Gurion specifically pro-
tested an attack by British forces
on a Haganah guard post in the
Beth Jacob district of the Tel
Aviv-Jaffa fighting area, during
which a British officer shot and
killed the post commander, Jacob
Shiff.
Another Leader Dead
Joshua Glogerman, another Ha-
ganah leader, was killed on Mon-
day.
The repeated British attacks on
the Haganah and the indiscrim-
inate fire of British patrols which
has been responsible for several
Jewish deaths, brought the Stern
Group officially into the fray for
the first time last week-end when
it threatened to avenge the British
killings of Jews. On the heels of a
raid by the Irgun on the Arab vil-
lage of Abu Kebir, near Jaffa,
that organization threatened to
wipe out the "killers in their lair"
during a clandestine broadcast.
. , The announcer also threatened
those Britons who were support-
ing the Arabs.
A Haganah spokesman stated
that up to now only small groups
of Jewish militia have been
thrown into battle. The famed
Palmach, crack striking force of
the Haganah, is being held in re-
serve.
Mobs Kill 50 Jews
Following the receipt of news
that 50 Jews had been killed by
marauding Arab mobs in Aden,
British crown colony on the Red
Sea coast near Yemen, the Jewish
Emergency Aid Committee cabled
$2,000 to the Jewish community
and asked for a complete report
so that more adequate aid could
be offered. Some 25 Arabs have
been killed by Jews and British
policemen during five days of riot-
ing and looting of the Jewish
quarter.
From Beirut it was reported
that the Lebanese parliament has
voted $450,000 to aid the Palestine
Arabs. Riots continued in Alex-
andria where students and work-
ers, defying the government's ban

may bring the entire Palestine is-
sue to the attention of the Big

now in London working on peace
treaties with Austria and Ger-
many, a well informed British
source stated.

U. S. government was "for the
present" discontinuing the licens-

areas" of the Middle East.
The Department also announc-

Americans living in the Middle
East" in view of the disturbances
which have occurred" in that
area. There are approximately
10,000 Americans in the Middle
East, it was estimated. Of them,
4,200 are in Palestine, most of
them Jews.
