A new organization, SHEERITH
HAPLEITA, composed of recent
arrivals in Detroit, has been or-
ganized by the young adult de-
partment of the Center. Perma-
nent headquarters of the group is
at the 12th St. Council Center,
and the office is open from 7 to
9:30 p.m. every evening. The fol-
lowing officers have been elected:
I. Elpern, president; L. Levinson,
secretary; H. Reich, treasurer; M.
Tuchendler, in charge of youth,
and H. Kaftan, member of the
executive committee.

CIL CENTER began Dec. 1. Mrs.
Natalie Winsen is the new
nursery teacher.

age meet in the morning sessions

Center Groups to Celebrate
Festival at Varied Parties
Many Center clubs and interest
groups have planned parties and
programs in celebration of Han-
ukah.
All junior members, their par-
ents and friends are invited to a
program at 1:30 p. m. Sunday,
Dec. 14. The dramatic group, led
by Ruben Silver, will dramatize
the battle of Judas Maccabeus
against the Syrians. .phyllis Rash
and the interpretative dance
group will tell the story of Han-
nah and her sons. Arts and crafts,
photographic, and cooking groups
also will participate.
Teen-agers in the Dexter area
are invited to Hanukah celebra-
tions Tuesday and Wednesday
.evenings, Dec. 9 and 10, at the
D. W. Simons branch, Tuxedo at
Holmur. Movies, community
singing, 'games and dancing are
planned.
The Select Social Club's party
will be in the form of a dinner
Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Ginsburg
Lounge. Mrs. Mina Caplan is
chairman. The Los Angeles
Telcove Club will have a Hanu-
kah ball Sunday, Dec. 14. Al-
fred Klein and Pauline Epps are
in charge of arrangements.
The Council of Mothers' Clubs'
annual Hanukah ball and latke
party will be held at 8:30 p. m.

South and Center Chapters on
the same date, Oscar Cohen of
the Jewish Community Council
will lead a clinic on "Prejudice."
The South and Central groups
will meet at the home of Mrs.
William Cohen, 2265 Chicago
Blvd., and the Northeast and
Northwest groups at the home
of Mrs. Alfred Bleier, 18915 Wil-
demere.
Mrs. Samuel Zeldes, co-chair-
man of publicity for the Women's
Division, reports that the mem-
bership drive will culminate with
the luncheon Dec. 17 at the Book
Cadillac Hotel, at which James
Waterman Wise will be guest
speaker.
Also on the program will be
the reading, by Mrs. Harold Sil-
verston, of the poem "Hanukah
Reverie" written by MrS. Harry
Landsman.
Tickets for the luncheon may

Jewish Taxi Driver Slain
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Mena
chem Levi, a cab driver, was
found murdered near Latrun.
Levi was last seen when he set
out for an unknown destination
with an Arab passenger.
