Palestine Scene PsYchologists, may learn something about -the character of the Britishers who rule Palestine by studying a list of films recently banned in that country. The films include The Mad Ghoul, Golem, The House of Dracula and Open City, the last undoubtedly because it depicts resistance to tyranny. The Mad Ghoul and The House of Dracula, the British probably fear, are too reminiscent of the. Farran Squad's activities and the tortures to Which the famed Birya de- . tainees had been subjected at Acre jail.- * 4, 4, Books A. L. Patkin, editor of The Zionist, official' organ of the Aus- tralian and New Zealand Zionist Federation, is the author of "The Origins of the Russian-Jewish Labor Movement" (F. W. Cheshire Pty. Ltd., Melbourne and London). In a compact volume of 260 pages, Patkin traces the history of the Russian-Jewish labor move- ment from the beginning of the 19th century, and touches on ideol- ogies and individuals that were part of the fabric of that movement, the Bund, the Poale-Zion, and Dubnov, Borocgow, Medem and others. It is a worthwhile volume of modern JewiSh history. "Hechalutz, Builders and Fighters, 1947," published by Hechalutz Organization of America, collected and edited by Yona Goldberg and Nathan Friedel, is divided into four sections—one. is an inter- esting symposium on Palestine pioneer recruiting among American Jewish youth, the other contains factual descriptive material on the American Hechalutz movement, and to 'deal' with . Haganah and with uncertificated Jewish immigration to Palestine.
