Ben Gurion Reveals Secret Conversations; Kaplan Discloses
$30,000,000 Deficit of Jewish Agency Over 5 Years

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — High
British officials recently con-
tacted Jewish circles and sug-
gested that they persuade leaders
of the Jewish community to ask
the • British to remain in the
country, asserting that inde-
pendent Arab and Jewish states
will never be established, David
Ben Gurion, chairman of the
Jewish Agency executive, charged
here.
Addressing the „fifth annual
meeting of the Palestine Founda-
tion Fund, Ben Gurion asked
whether the Foreign and Colonial
Offices had authorized the officials
to approach the Jews. He • ac-
cused the British of being both
anti-Jewish and anti-Arab, add-
ing that they aimed at converting
Palestine into a crown colony to
serve as a base for British forces.
Ben Gurion revealed that he
had suggested to High Commis-
sioner Sir Alan Cunningham that
some preliminary arrangements
be made to facilitate the taking
over of administrative functions
by the Jewish state prior to the
British withdrawal, but was told
that- his proposal was "prema-
ture."

: Discussing the question of
boundaries of the new state, Beii.
Gurion said that the United Na-
tions must take into account the
fact that the Jewish state must
absorb large numbers of immi-
grants. He promised full equality
for all citizens and called on
Arabs inside and outside of Pales-
tine • for peace and cooperation.
At the same time, he -again re-
jected bi-nationalism.
Eliezer Kaplan, Agency treas-
urer, disclosed that the Agency
had spent about $50,000,000 in the
past year, during which its in-:
come was only about $36,000,000,
of which $10,000,000 was in loans.
He said that over the past five
years, the Agency has spent $100,-
000,000, incurring a deficit of more
than $30,000,000. ' He predicted
that $80,000,000 will be needed
during the current year for se-
curity and defense and that $260,-
000,000 will be required to finance
the immigration of 150,000 refu-
gees during the transition period.
He estimated that the absorption
of 1,200,000 immigrants in the
next 10 years will require. $3,-
000,000,000.

The Detroit SOS drive for sup-

be conducted from Sunday, Nov.
30, through Sunday, Dec. 7, ac-
cording to • an announcement
made by Mrs. Helen Singer,
chairman of the SOS committee
conducting the 1947 Detroit cam-

"The drive this year," Mrs.
Singer stated, "will take place
on these two days alone instead
of the year-round drive which
has been conducted in the.. past.
On these two Simdays Detroit
must meet its goal of 102,000
pounds of supplies to be sent

Mrs. Singer announced that

U. S. Responsible
For Terrorism,
Abdullah Says

NEW YORK, tJTA)—In an
article in last weck's issue of the
American Magazine, King Ab-
dullah of Transjordan attacks
American policy in relation to
Palestine and charges that it is
responsible for terrorism in that
Country. The next issue will
present an , article on the Jew-
ish viewpoint by Dr.•Abba Hillel.
Silver.
Abdullah writes:- "The present
catastrophe may be laid almost
entirely at your door. Your gov- ,
ernment, almost alone , in the
world, is insisting on the immedi-
ate admission of 100,600 more
Jews into Palestine—to be follow-
;0 by countless lrlditional ones.
This will have the most frightful
consequences in bloody chaos
beyond any thing ever` hinted at
In Palestine before.
"It is your press and political
leadership, almost alone in the
World, who press This demand. It
is almost entirely American
money which hires or buys the
"refugee ships" that steam illegal-
ly toward Palestine; American
money which paiys their crews.
The illegal immigration from
Europe is .arranged by the Jew-
ish Agency, supported almost en-
tirely by American funds. It is
American dollars Which support
the terrorists."
In the eyes of the -Arabs, he
asserts, the Jews are foreigners.
