NEW YORK (JPS)—Drs. Henry
Welch, Harold. L. Hirsh and S..
Ross Taggart, of the U. S. Food
and Drug Administration and the
District of Columbia Health De-
par,tment, have found that Pectin,
an inexpensive fruit chemical, can
slow clovin the rate at which
-penicillin, streptomycin and.other
drugs escape from the body,
meaning fewer "shots" to disturb
sick- patients and greater econ-
omy in the use of the drugs.

might be undesirable because of

as contributions, were received.
Today, a modern synagogue
stands on the - site of .the old one.

57% of Britons Favor
Outlawipg of Fascists

. LONDON, (JTA)—More • than
half. the people of Britain favor
the bannning of, fascist propa-
ganda, according to the.results of
a recently concluded Gallup poll.
While 57 per cent of the people
fayor , outlawing of such propa-
ganda, 28 per cent believe that
the fascists should be permitted
to continue their propaganda
activities. The remaining 15 per
cent expressed no opinion.

Drs. Samuel Natelson; Julius
K. Lugovoy and Joseph B. Pin-
cus, of the Jewish Hospital in
Brooklyn, reported to the Amer-
iCan Chemical Society that a type
of epilepsy which often makes
Children feeble-minded, is caused
by incomplete digestion of sugars
and starches resulting in an ex-
cess of citric acid in the blood.
This discovery helps explain why
the insulin shock treatment some-
times has devastating after-ef-
fects.
Refugee's Atom Research -
An improved method of sepa-
rating non-radioactive carbon 13'
has been devised by Dr. H. Lon-
don, a young refugee scientist,
in the atomic laboratory at Har-
well, England.

cil of Jewish Women, charged in
a telegram to Representative J.
Parnell Thomas, chairman of the
House Committee on Un-Amer-
ican Activities.
Warning against the establish-
ment of a precedent that may
extend to other aspects of Amer-
ican life, Mrs. Welt declared that,'
while the Council condemns sub-
versive groups, it recognizes that
the investigation of subversive
activity 'is the proper responsi-
bility of the FBI, not of a Con-
gressional Committee.

Vandals Desecrate Jewish
Cemetery Near Berlin

BERLIN, •(JTA) —A 'Jewish
cemetery at Oranienburg, north
of here, has been desecrated by
vandals, according to a report in
Der Weg, local' Jewish newspaper.
Forty tombstones, including some
which were recently erected . to
replace those destroyed by the
Nazis,' were smashed. Records and
furnishings in' the cemetery
chapel were removed and the
door was ripped from its hinges.
