Shaarey Zedek Will Hold Beth Yehudah

Annual Institute Nov. 12-16 Direct°rs

The second annual Institute of
Jewish Studies will be conducted
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Nov. 12 through -Nov. 16. The in-
stitute will be opened with an ad- .
dress by Prof. Abraham S. Hal-
kin on "Facing the Future." Prof.
Halkin, of the Jewish Theological
Seminary and of Columbia Uni-
versity, has contributed many ar-
ticles to scholarly publications
and is a student of Hebrew and
Arabic. Two study courses will
be given on Thursday evening,
on Saturday evening, and on Sun-
day afternoon, 2:30 to 4:30 p. m.
Teachers will be Dr. Leon J. Lie-
breich, of Gratz College, Phila-
delphia; and Rabbi Henry Fisher
of .Conkregation Bnai Zion, Chi-
cago.
Dr. Liebreich was ordained as
rabbi by the Jewish Theological
Seminary in 1925. He served as
rabbi at the Adath Israel Congre-
gation in Trenton for 18 years.
In 1945, he accepted the post of
instructor in Bible and religion
at. Gratz College. He is the author
of many learned articles. He will

Program Sunday
The annual concert of the Sho-
lem Aleichem Folk Institute will
be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday,
Nov. 2, at the Jewish Commuhity
Center.
Guest speaker of the evening
will be the r. pted Yiddish literary
figure, H. .L2ivick, who will
speak on Jetriish cultural ,activi-
ties.
The musical portion of the eve-
ning will include an instrumental
trio, Lillian Robbins,- pianist; Sa-
die Cooper, violinist, and Henry
Siegel, cellist. Detroit soprano,
Shoshanah Brooke Friedman, will
present a group of Yiddish and
Hebrew songs. Also participating,
with recitations and readings,
will be a group of children from
the Sholem Aleichem Schools.

Actions Committee in the forma-
tion of campus Zionist groups.
During his stay in Canada, he
was president of the local chap-
ter of the Canadian Friends of the
Hebrew University, chaplain of
Bnai Brith Lodge, , and was active
in the Mizrachi movement.
Last summer, he was head

stitute, the leadership training
camp of the ZOA in Hancock,
N. Y. He participated in the Na-
