He writes, in part: "I was surprised to hear that there are people who think of the Jewish Comunity Council as a date clearance bureau, and nothing else! The importance of this service to many of our or- ganizations should not obscure the other important things. whiCh the Council does. Without going into detail, I would like to point out that the Council's work is of two kinds. On one hand, it defends the Jewish community against anti-Semitic and anti democratic attacks. On the other, it conducts a positive program of activities designed to bring to people's at- tention the values of Jewish life which we inherit ftom the past and to encourage the strengthen- ing and enrichment of our Jewish living in the present."
