Several hundred women from
Detroit and neighboring Michigan
cities heard a report on the record
of achievements of the National
Federation of Temple Sisterhoods
at a luncheon and rally last Mon-
day at the Art Institute from Dr.
Maurice N. Eisendrath, president
of the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations. Dr. Eisendrath ap-
pealed for support for the House
of Living Judaism—major NFTS
project.
The Sisterhood of Temple
Israel served as hostess at this
function, with the Sisterhood of
Temple Beth El actively partici-
pating.
With "spare a brick for our
national home" as the slogan
adopted by\ the Temple Israel
Sisterhood's' committee for the
House of Living Judaism, the
luncheon meeting dedicated itself
to the realization of a national
goal of $650,000 for the erection
of the House of Living Judaism
which, upon completion, will be
an Anaerican and world center
of religious activities, for the pro-
motion of the. Liberal Jewish
movement here and abroad. More
than $100,000 already has been
secured, and the Detroit Sister-
hoods are giving the project gen-
erous support, as are the 415 af-
filiated units of the National Fed-
eration of Temple Sisterhoods
from coast to coast.
The rally on Monday began
with an invocation by Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer of Temple Beth
El, and Rabbi Leon Fram of Tem-
ple Israel addressed the audience.
Among the guests were Mrs.
Lawrence Freedman of Temple
Beth-El, Detroit, executive board
member of the National Feder-
ation of Temple Sisterhoods,
presidents of visiting Sisterhoods,
and the following officers of the
Michigan Federation of Temple
Sisterhoods: Mrs.. Irving Stein-
man, Pontiac, first vice president;
Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, Temple
Israel, second vice president; Mrs.
Max Loewenstein, Temple Beth
El, recording secretary. Mrs.
Maurice Klein, president of Tem-
ple Beth El Sisterhood, delivered
a message, as did Mrs. Samuel
Blacher, president of Temple
Israel Sisterhood, who was chair-
man of the rally.
Dr. Eisendrath was fhtroduced
by Mrs. John Hopp, Temple Beth-
El's chairman of the House of
Living Judaism. The meeting was
then presided over by Mrs. H. J.
Millman, victory project chair-
man of Temple Israel.
A dessert luncheon preceded
the rally, and a fashion show con-
cluded the program.
