Working in a semi-lbassa-
dorial status, Rabbi Bernstein was
accorded dipIomatic privileges,
and had contact with many of
the key figures in the United
States and Europe. He told of
his talk with Bevin, "a bitter; ego-.
centric man" last February, im-
mediately before the British cabi-
net made its preliminary decision
to leave Palestine.
"There is no solution to the im-
Migration problerri, without one
to the political- problem," Bevin
replied to Rabbi Bernstein's plea
for admission of Jews to Palestine
"on- human terms."
