tained at pre-nuptial affairs by Jecqueline Greebaum, Zena Berko-
witz, Lois Waterstone, Mrs. Bernard Zack, Mrs. Isadore Temkin, Mrs.
Leonard Farber, Mrs. Harold Elson, Mrs. Charles Snell, Mrs. Isadore
Hertz, Mrs. Sol Lifsitz, Mrs. Samuel Gale, Mrs. Louis Blume, Mrs.
Louis Rosenzweig and Mrs. Samuel Lewis.
Mr. and Mrs. Melville Welt of Balmoral Dr. have returned from
a few days' visit in Chicago.
Mrs. Edwin M. Rosenthal Jr. of Parkside Ave. has returned from
a short visit in New York.
Mrs. Howard Kaichen, her daughter, Susan, and son, John, of
Huntington Woods left on Monday by motor for Providence R. I.,
where Susan will resume her studies at Lincoln School.
Jerry Shroder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shroder of Bloomfield
Hills, has left for Princeton; N. J., where he will resume his studies
at Princeton University.
Bunny Zemon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian L. Zemon of
Wildemere Ave., has left for Northhampton, yfass., where she is a
student at Smith College.
Dean Laib • has returned to her classes at George School in
Philadelphia after spending the summer with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Isadore Levin of Strathcona Dr.
Leonard M. Rand, who is on leave from Tokio, Japan, where he
is a prosecuting attorney against Japanese War Criminals, spent a
few days with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Morris Rand of Highland
Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Levitt of the Indian Village Manor are
spending a week in New York.
Joanne Kuttnauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Kuttnauer
of Canterbury Rd., has left for Lenox, Mass., where she will attend
the Windsor Mountain School.
Miss Selma Sampliner of the Chatham Apt. had as her guests
this week her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joshua
Abramson of Beverly Hills, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Oppenheim of Whitmore Ave. spent the
last week-end visiting with friends in Cleveland.
David Mayer has returned to his classes at Oberlin College after
spending the summer vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian
Krolik of Chicago Blvd. -
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schild of Wisconsin Ave. have as their guest
her sister, Mrs. Walter Leubusher of Minneapolis, Minn.
Madeline Brodie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Brodie of
Chicago B1Vd., has left to resume her studies at Northwestern Uni-
versity.
Sol Sachs of New York spent a few days this week as the guest
of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sachs of
Dexter Blvd.
Mrs. Jule Klein of Calvert Ave. left for New York where she
will visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Esser.
Malcolm Smilay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smilay of Balmoral
Dr., has returned from a two-month tour of Europe and has re-
sumed his studies at the University of Michigan.
Mrs. Mendes Sacks and hesr two sons of Gan Hayim, Palestine,
was the guest for a few days last week of her uncle and aunt, Mr.
and Mrs. Lawrence Crohn of Wildemere Ave.
Mrs. L. M. Sandelman of Los Angeles, Calif., is spending a few
weeks as the guest of Dr. and Mrs. N. Goldberg of Huntington Woods.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyere Fishman of Fairfield Ave. have returned
from a six weeks' stay in California.
Marilyn Koblin has returned from a six-month stay in , Los
Angeles.

A blow was dealt Detroit hate
organizations when on Tuesday
noon, at the eve of Yom Kippur,
Mayor Edward J. Jeffries signed
a petition in support of the Buck-
ley Bill H. R. 2848. This bill pro-
vides for the banning of distri-
bution of anti-Semitic literature
and is intended to break the
backbone of groups of Fascist
character, which are actively tor-
menting racial discord.
Present at the mayor's office
at the time of signing were Wil-
liam Levner, national organiza-
tional director of the American
Jewish Labor Council, and Har-
old L. Shapiro, president of the
Michigan Jewish Labor Council.

Dr. Goodstein Named
Correction House Dentist

The Detroit House of Correc-
tion Commission announces the
appointment of Dr. Joseph E.
Goodstein as the r77777rs
official dentist of
that institution.
Dr. Goodstein
attended North-
western Univer-
sity, was grad-
uated froth the
first dental class
of the Univer-
sity of Detroit
in 1935 and has
practiced dentis- Dr. Goodstein
try at 7745 Puritan since that
time. He is 37, married and the
father of a six-year-old son. They
reside at 16626 Greenlawn.

Richard Raymond Speaks

NEW YORK—Richard C. Ray-
mond, former adviser on refugees
to the United States State De-
partment, will present a first-
hand report on the situation con-
fronting the Jewish displaced
persons of Germany in an ad-
dress at the second annual meet-
ing of the East Central Region of
the Joint Distribution Committee
in the Hotel William Penn, Pitts-
burgh, Sunday, Sept. 28, it was
announced by Lester D. Alexan-
der of Toledo, regional chairman.

MRS. LESLIE L. FLEISHER
The home of Dr. and Mrs. Sol
M. Lewis of West Oakridge Ave.,
Ferndale, was the scene of a beau-
tifully appointed wedding, Thurs-
day evening, Sept. 18, when their
daughter, Jean Claire, became the
bride of Leslie L. Fleisher, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Fleisher of
Pingree Ave. Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer performed the ceremony
which was followed by a recep-
tion in the garden.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, was love-
ly in her gown of ivory satin
with its long fitted bodice, point-
ed sleeves and full skirt extend-
ing into a court train. The yoke
and fish-tailed peplum of the
gown as well as the sovereign
crown to which her fingertip veil
was fastened, Ivere fashioned
from rare lace which her paternal
grandmother had made over a
period of 50 years. She carried
a white Bible adorned with orch-
ids and streamers of stephanotis.
Ann Lewis was her sister's maid
of honor, and Paul Zuckerman
served his brother-in-law as best
man. •
The young couple left by motor
for Colorado Springs where they
will honeymoon at the Broadmoor
Hotel. Upon their return they
will make their home at the
Highland Towers.
Out-of-town guests from Mid-
land, Mich.; Flint; Chicago; New
York and Chattanooga, Tenn.,
were present.

Gilda Fox, Seymour Altman
and Reuben Silver will be seen
in the three starring roles of
Mary Grey (Jean D'Arc), the
director, and the Dauphin, in the
Wayne University Circular Thea-
tre's production of Maxwell An-
derson's "Joan of Lorraine" Oct
9, 10 and 11, and 16, 17 and 18 at
McCollester Hall, Cass at Forest.
This will be the first non-pro-
fessional performance of the play
in Detroit. Sylvia Sidney starred
in the production this summer at
the Schubert-Lafayette.
Others in the cast include
Leonard Jaslove, Mort Zieve,
Harry Elton, Lois Dreher and
Harvey Gedrich.

Attending the couple were the

The newlyweds have resumed
their studies at the University of

National Center Project

will help draft the first state-
ment of principles defining the
fundamental purposes of the
Jewish Community Center, form-
ulation and adoption of which
will be the principal business
before ' the Committee's annual
meeting at the Hotel Pennsyl-
vania, New York City, Sept. 26
to 28.
