"A Rabbi's Prayer" will be the
theme of Rabbi Leon Fram's Kol
Nidre sermon at the Yom Kippur
eve service of Temple Israel in
the auditorium of the Detroit
Institute of Arts at 8 p.m. Tues-
day, Sept. 23.
Wednesday morning Rabbi
Fram will preach on the subject
"Fasting and Hungering." At 2
p.m. Wednesday, he will tell the
children of the congregation his
annual Yom Kippur story. At the
memorial or yizkor services at
4 o'clock he will speak on "The
Infinite Preciousness of Human
Life."
Dr. Irving Levey, auxiliary lib-
rarian of the Hebrew Union ol-
lege, Cincinnati, will preach at
the auxiliary service in the lec-
ture hall of the Institute Tuesday
night.
On Friday night, Sept. 26, Rabbi
Fram will preach in the lecture
hall on the subject "The -Legacy
of Moses." At this service Law-
rence Shapiro, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Murray Shapiro, will cele-
brate his Bar Mitzvah.
This Friday night, Sabbath of
Repentance, Rabbi Fram's ser-
mon topic is "God of Love." At
this service Arnold Gottlieb, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Gottlieb,
will celebrate his Bar. Mitzvah.

Palestinian Cantor
Assumes Post With
Shaar Hashomayim

Cantor Nathan A. Adler of Je-
rusalem has arrived in Windsor
to become cantor of Cong. Shaar
Hashomayim. His duties with the
congregation began with the High
Holy Day services.
A graduate of the Yeshivath
Etz Chaim in Jerusalem, he stu-
died under Jerusalem's Cantor
Rivlin and at the Jerusalem Con-
servatory of Music. His family
has a cantor or rabbi serving four
communities in the United States,
and in Palestine. For `the last six
ye'ars, Cantor Adler has served
with the Great Synagogue of Re-
hovot in Palestine.
He plans to organize a chil-
dren's choir in Windsor after the
holidays.
Cong. Shaar Hashomayim is
holding special holiday services
for children and young people
this year. Prayers for children
seven to 12 are led by Mrs. Leah
Levine of the Talmud Torah staff.
M. M. Sumner conducts the ser-
vice for unmarried young adults.
As in past years, trained nurses
are in attendance to supervise
play activities for children three
to seven, while their parents are
worshipping. •

Under the leadership of Isidor
Sosnick, president, the Turover
Aid Society has begun the erec-
tion of a Synagogue and Com-
munity Center on Dexter Blvd.
between Duane and Monterey.
The building will house Con-
gregation Ezras Achim and fur-
nish club rooms for the Turover
Mens - Club, Turover Juniors, a
Scout troup and meeting place
for the society.
The building committee is un-
der the leadership of Julius Sch
wartz and the fund raising com-
mittee is headed by Jacob Bob-
rin, assisted by Nathan Samet.
Max L. Roberts is secretary. Saul
Rubin, an • ex-president, is super-
vising the construction of the
building.
Construction funds are being
raised by voluntary pledges giv-
en by members of the organiza-
tion.
The cornerstone laying cere-
monies will be held after the
holidays.

Joseph Cohen, chairman of the
Windsor Talmud Torah, an-
nounces the appointment of Rab-
bi Chaim Weinstein as director.
Rabbi Weinstein is a graduate
of Misafta Torah Vadas, the Heb-
rew Theological Seminary, and
Wayne University.
Before taking the Windsor post
he was a member of the staff of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah and was
rabbi of Beth Aaron Synagogue
in Detroit.

Rabbi Harry Essrig has select-
ed "A Soft Religion for Hard
Times" as the title 'of his Kol
Nidre Eve sermon at Congrega-
tion Emanuel in Grand Rapids.
Yom Kippur morning, Wednes-
day, Sept. 24, he will preach on
"Our First Line of Defense,"
