UN to Hear Jews, Arabs on Palestine Report

Special Board to Speed Up
Assembly's Final Decision

.

Corridors Eliminated
In Partitioned Zion

UNSCOP's elimination of
corridors between the proposed
Jewish and Arab states is de-
scribed in the Christian Science
Monitor by Joseph G. Harrison,
as follows:
One of the most interesting
points about the majority
scheme is a -proposal to create
two "intersection points," one
southeast the town of Afula
and the - other northeast of
Majdal.
These are points where the
Jewish and Arab areas come
together in such a way that
it would be .possible to go
from one end of the three
Arab sections or from one end
of the three Jewish sections to
the other without crossing
"fOreign" territory.
This is a rather clever con-
cept and eliminates the corri-
dor idea which would split
the country up into Arab and
Jewish sections without con-
tact with each other.
The proposed Jewish state at
the outset would have a popu-
lation of approximately 500,-
000 Jews and 416,000 Arabs.
In the Arab state, the popula-
tion would be 1'75,000 Arabs
and 8,000 Jews. In the Jeru-
salem area—which would be-
come an international trustee-
ship—there would be 106,000
Arabs and 100,000 Jews.
